OK Summer Underclass Games: Second Baseman Analysis

PBR OK hosted the third annual Summer Underclass Prospect Games at Oklahoma State University. Nearly 80 players showcased their skill in front of the PBR OK staff and the entire staff from Oklahoma State.

Today, we take a look at the six second baseman from the event.

 

Gavin Blue 2B / OF / Coalgate, OK / 2022

Featured a stocky 5-foot-10, 175-pound frame with some easy strength. The right-handed hitter starts with a balanced, even setup utilizing a quick lift-and-replace stride to initiate his swing. Demonstrated advanced feel for a barrel that yields noticeable whip through a slightly uphill path. Registered a 79 mph bat-exit velocity  with backspin to the pull-side. Recorded a 7.84 60-yard dash. The primary middle infielder displayed advanced footwork with a low center of gravity allowing for range to both the forehand and backhand sides. Showcased active momentum through the baseball evidenced by an accurate 75 mph arm-strength across the diamond. Used a quick and fluid, high ¾ arm-slot with repeatability. 

Nathan Gresham 2B / Putnam City West, OK / 2021

The projectable 6-foot, 170-pound middle infielder displayed a lean frame with long actions. The right-handed hitter begins with a narrow, open stance utilizing a toe-tap with sink to initiate his swing. Generated a slightly uphill barrel path generating backspin on 71 mph bat-exit velocities to the pull-side gap. Ran a 7.71 60-yard dash. The primary middle infielder demonstrated long actions with adequate footwork during defensive evaluations. Approached the ball with momentum consistently and utilized a soft glove hand to give and take when necessary. Recorded accurate 72 mph arm-strength across the infield out of a fluid, high ¾ arm-slot.

Hunter Hall 2B / RHP / Skiatook, OK / 2021

Demonstrated feel of a physical 6-foot-1, 185-pound frame with present strength and athleticism. The left-handed hitter begins with a wide, even setup utilizing a controlled toe-tap to initiate his swing. A strong lower half enables the barrel to whip through a slightly uphill bat path generating easy backspin to the pull-side gap. The lefty featured feel for his hands while hitting into a stiff front-side with weight shift. Registered a bat-exit velocity of 81 mph . The middle infielder displayed long actions while arriving on time to the baseball consistently. Soft hands corralled advantageous hops created by the feet coupled with accurate 72 mph arm-strength out of a high ¾ arm-slot with a short takeaway. 

Hank Heiselbetz 2B / 3B / Edmond North , OK / 2022

The 5-foot-10, 140-pound second baseman featured a long and lean frame with room to add strength. The left-handed hitter begins with a tall, slightly open stance utilizing a lift-and-replace stride with present sink to initiate his swing. Displayed some stretch before entering the zone through a flat barrel path generating a 76 mph bat-exit velocity . Demonstrated some feel for his hands spraying line-drives towards the middle of the field. Ran a 7.52 60-yard dash. The second baseman showcased advanced footwork with a low center of gravity that allowed for range to both sides. A soft glove hand pushed and pulled when needed coupled with smooth transfers. Utilized a high ¾ arm-slot with a short takeaway on accurate throws of 75 mph across the infield. 

Carson Pettifer 2B / RHP / Sulphur, OK / 2022

Displayed a lean 5-foot-9, 137-pound frame with present athleticism and flexibility. The right-handed hitter starts with a balanced, even setup utilizing a lift-and-replace stride to begin his swing. Fluid hips and feel for his hands allowed for advanced barrel awareness . Registered a 72 mph bat-exit velocity  using a line-drive approach. Ran a 7.59 60-yard dash. The primary middle infielder played low to the ground with quick, fluid actions and adequate footwork. Soft hands and smooth transfers yielded accurate 74 mph arm-strength out of a high-effort, high ¾ arm-slot. 

Chevy Todd 2B / 3B / Moore, OK / 2023

The 5-foot-9, 150-pound middle infielder featured a long frame with present strength and feel for his body. The right-handed hitter started with an open stance utilizing a toe-tap to initiate his swing. Demonstrated a line-drive approach  with some barrel whip generating an 81 mph bat-exit velocity. Showcased advanced barrel awareness with an athletic lower half. Ran a 7.77 60-yard dash. The middle infielder displayed adequate footwork arriving to the baseball consistently on time. Played with a low center of gravity utilizing a smooth transfer and quick, high ¾ arm-slot to yield accurate 76 mph throws across the infield.
