OK Top Unsigned Senior Games: LHP Analysis

Prep Baseball Report Oklahoma hosted the second annual Top Unsigned Senior Games on Wednesday, June 6th, at the newly turfed Wendell Simmons Field. The event showcased a sold out 60 player roster from the 2019 grad class. Each position player went through a pro-style workout and played in a game. 

Though a few of the players covered here are talended two-way players, today we will cover them as left-handed pitchers, with positional analysis to com later.

Caleb Case LHP / 1B / Stillwater, OK / 2019

A durable 6-foot-1, 195-pound frame with strength throughout. On the mound, the left-hander works from an old school and average tempo delivery, taking his hands over his head and working with rhythm to the dish. Arm action is long in the back before coming through a high-¾ slot with arm speed. Fastball ranged 83-87 and touched 88 with arm-side run. Curveball morphed between 1/7 and bigger shape and 2/8 shape with later and tighter break 68-74 mph. In the game, struck out the first five batters he faced before surrendering a walk. 

Ben Gross LHP / Bishop Kelley, OK / 2019

A 5-foot-10, 157-pound lean frame with plenty of room to add size and strength. On the mound, the left-hander works from an average tempo delivery with a moderate leg kick that he repeats well. Arm action is fluid with some length in the back, hides the ball behind his head as he brings  his arm through a high-¾ slot.  Fastball shows some arm-side run at 78-80 mph. Breaking ball has a slurvy 2/8 shape with rolling action and some late depth at 66-68 mph. Changeup sits 71-72 with some fade. Showed advanced command throwing each pitch to both sides of the plate. In the game, retired all six hitters he faced, striking out the first two and getting weak contact out of the next four. 

Hollis Huff LHP / 1B / Norman North, OK / 2019

A lean and projectable 6-foot-3, 175-pound frame. On the mound, the left-hander works only from the stretch with an uptempo delivery and moderate leg kick and quality leg drive down the mound. Arm action is full and fluid in the back coming through a high-¾ slot with arm speed. Fastball ranged 83-87 mph with some arm-side run. Curveball is advanced and easily one of the the best in OK’s 2019 class with tight spin and big and late depth with 1/7 shape. In the game, retired all six hitters he faced, punching out two of them. 

Riley Lowry LHP / 1B / Mount Saint Mary, OK / 2019

The Cowley County CC commit is a physically impressive 6-foot-3, 212-pound frame. On the mound, the left-hander works from an average tempo delivery with a high leg kick. Arm action is long behind him with a wrist hook before coming through a ¾ slot. Fastball sits 81-83 mph and touches 84 with some downhill tilt. Curveball has 1/7 shape with big depth and late action at 72-74 mph. In the game, Lowry filled up the zone and retired all four batters he faced, striking out one. 

Jackson Tull LHP / OF / Westmoore , OK / 2019

A 6-foot-1, 160-pound long, lean, and projectable frame. On the mound, the left-hander works with an uptempo and smooth delivery with a high leg kick that should allow added velo with the addition of strength. Arm action is fluid in the back with moderate length coming through a high-¾ slot. Fastball sits 78-79 mph and touches 80 with consistent, late, and heavy arm-side run, filled up the zone, located to both sides of the plate and down. Slider has big east-to-west shape at 64-65 mph. In the game, got consistent weak contact.
