OK Uncommitted Senior Spotlight: LHP/OF Gray Adams

Andy Urban
OK/MO/KS Executive Scouting Supervisor

The uncommitted 2021 LHP/OF Grayson Adams (Bethany HS) is a fluid moving 6-foot-2, 165-pound projectable athlete that will make a huge jump with the addition of some strength to his lean frame. Already a skill mover with a clean delivery and swing, Adams seems to just be a step away, even more so considering the jump his brother made about the same time.

A 6-foot-2, 165-pound long and projectable frame. On the mound, the left-hander works only from the stretch with a moderate leg kick before striding down the mound and finishing balanced towards the dish. Arm action is long and easy in the back before coming through a high-¾ slot. Fastball sits 78-80 touching 81 mph with heavy arm-side run, mostly strikes. Curveball sits 66-67 mph with 1/7 shape and gradual depth, some strikes. Changeup shows some fade, mostly strikes at 73-74 mph.

5/18/19

Top 10 positionally in his class. Showcased a 6-foot-2, 165-pound lean, athletic frame.  The left-handed hitter starts from a tall, open stance with hands resting on the shoulder. A rock back upon load coupled with a leg-hang initiates his swing. Used a simple, repeatable swing to barrel the ball with consistency during batting practice. Registered an 81 mph bat-exit velocity. Ran a 7.26 60-yard dash. Smooth actions in the outfield and feet that arrived to the ball on time allowed for accurate 81 mph throws to carry towards the plate.

2/03/19

A long, lean and projectable 6-foot-2, 165-pound frame. On the mound, the left-hander works from a deliberate delivery with rhythm and a moderate leg kick before gliding down the mound, finishing balanced. Arm action is long, fluid, clean, and loose in the back before coming through a high-¾ slot. Fastball sat 79-81 and touched 82 mph with some downhill tilt, almost all strikes. Curveball has consistent 1/7 shape with depth in the bottom of the zone at 66-68 mph. Changeup shows fade and occasional sink at 74-75 mph.

8-20-17
A long and lean 6-foot-1, 152-pound frame with plenty of room to add size and strength. Offensively, the left-handed hitter bats from an upright and slightly open set-up with some rhythm in his hands. Uses a moderate leg kick and load with a flat bat path. In BP, shows a mostly flat all-fields approach, some barrels, 79 mph exit velo. Runs a 4.70 home-to-first. Defensively, shows consistent and clean actions. Throws from a loose and easy 3/4 slot with excellent accuracy that will continue to gain strength as Adams puts on size, 67 mph. In the game, went 0-for-3. On the mound, works from an average tempo delivery with rhythm that he repeats well. Uses a full, loose, and clean arm circle that comes through a low-3/4 slot. Fastball showed consistent sink and some arm-side run, inducing ground balls often, sat 72-73 mph. Curveball is still a developing pitch, spins out at times, 62-63 mph. In the game, Adams filled up the zone early and earned lots of weak contact on the ground.

2-4-18
A long and lean 6-foot-1, 154-pound frame with lots of room to add size and strength. On the mound, works from a deliberate delivery with a moderate leg kick, lands in line and finishes towards the plate. Arm action has some length in the back and comes through a ¾ slot with looseness. Fastball sits 75-76 mph with slight arm-side run and is controlled in the zone. Changeup shows consistent fade when thrown to the arm side, consistently around the zone. Curveball is developing, 62-63 mph, rolling action and 1/7 shape, thrown around the zone. Overall, Adams long frame and loose arm and bloodlines make him a prospect to watch closely as he develops.
