OK Uncommitted Senior Spotlight: RHP/3B Wesley Olds

Andy Urban
OK/KS/MO Scouting Supervisor

A capable two-way player, Olds shines brightest on the mound. The right-hander pounds the strikes zone with a mid 80s fastball and lands a sold breaking ball as well. The broad shouldered Olds also has bloodlines on his side being the son of a coach and the brother of a top draft prospect.

Scouting Report

2/02/20

A 6-foot-2, 180-pound frame with broad shoulders. On the mound, the right-hander works from a slightly up-tempo delivery with rhythm and a high leg kick before striding down the mound and finishing to the dish. Arm action has moderate length in the back with fluid action before coming through a high-¾ slot with advanced arm speed. Fastball flashes arm-side run at 82-84 mph, some strikes. Chageup shows consistent arm-side run, thrown with full arm speed at 77-78 mph, some strikes. Breaking ball has 10/4 shape with some late depth thrown with near full arm speed and shows tight spin at 66-68 mph, some strikes.

Demonstrated a physical 6-foot-2, 180-pound frame with athleticism and fluidity in his movements. The right-handed hitter begins with an open stance utilizing a leg-kick to initiate his swing. Showcased a flat barrel path through the hitting zone while hitting into a soft front side with some early pull side turn. Strong top hand allowed for whip through contact while registering an 82 mph bat-exit velocity off the tee. Ran a 7.20 60-yard dash. The third baseman played with a low center of gravity displaying adequate footwork that created momentum towards the target. Flashed accurate 81 mph arm-strength across the diamond out of a fluid high ¾ arm-slot.
