Oklahoma Winter Open I.D.: Middle Infielder Analysis

On December 18th, Prep Baseball Report Oklahoma held its second event, the Oklahoma Winter Open I.D., in Yukon Oklahoma. Over 40 players from around the state from every high school class attended the event while college coaches and a pro scout took note.
Player profiles have been updated with profile pictures, stats, and videos. In days to come, we will break down the event position-by-position. Today, we will take an in-depth look at the nine middle infielders in attendance. Those many of them are two-way players, they will be covered today as infielders. Middle Infielders
Tanner Collins, 2B, Dale HS, 2020
A 5-foot-8, 150-pound frame. Offensively, right-handed hitter, middle-pull approach, flat and on the ground. Slightly back leg heavy stance, reverse toe-tap load, drops hands, good extension. Some solid contact, 76 mph exit velo. Ran a 5.2 home-to-first. Defensively, excellent hands, average feet, throws from a sidearm slot, 63 mph.
Joshua Elmore, 2B, Bethel, 2017
A 5-foot-11, 175-pound lean frame. Offensively, right-handed hitter, middle-oppo approach, mostly flat. Upright, relaxed stance, short stride, arm-bar load, slightly up hill path, some length. Most well struck balls were to the opposite field, 81 mph exit velo. Defensively, made every play, some stiffness, throws from a low-3/4 slot, 71 mph.
Conner Gore, SS, Enid HS, 2020
A 6-foot, 160-pound athletic build with long levers. Defensively, advanced feet and hands, shows athleticism on the slow roller play. Throws from multiple slots with accuracy, 72 mph, arm action is clean and will continue to get stronger as Gore develops. Offensively, right-handed hitter, middle-oppo approach, flat. Hits from a balanced athletic stance, loose with rhythm, moderate knee-knock leg kick, quality leg drive, good extension, high finish. Ran a 4.58 home to first.
Hunter Hughes, SS, Tutle HS, 2018
A 5-foot-10, 175-pound frame with strength throughout. Offensively, right-handed hitter, middle-pull approach, flat, peppered the back of the cage. Uses a balanced stance, some knee bend, slight rocking load, moderate stride, fast strong hands, and a high finish, 88 mph exit velo. Defensively, advanced feet, good hands, some stiffness in the arm, 73 mph, accurate. Ran a 4.26 home-to-first.
Karson Little, 2B, Yukon HS, 2017
A 5-foot-9, 151-pound build. Offensively, right-handed hitter, middle-oppo approach, mostly flat. Open stance, slight squat, reverse toe-tap load, handsy swing, 81 mph exit velo. Ran a 4.56 home-to-first. Defensively, average feet and hands, very accurate arm, 63 mph.
Cole McMurphy, SS, Crossings Christian, 2019
A 6-foot, 175-pound lean frame. Offensively, right-handed hitter, mostly middle and flat approach. Balanced set up, low hands, moderate leg kick and stride, gets spread out, high finish, 78 mph exit velo. Defensively, average feet and hands, fields the ball deep at times, accurate arm, over the top action, 68 mph.
Dylan Metcalf, 2B, Elk City HS, 2017
A 5-foot-7, 160-pound frame. Offensively, right-handed hitter, middle of the field approach, all line drives. Relaxed, upright, open stance, toe tap followed by a long stride, on plane through contact, bat quickness out front. Every ball was lined into the back of the cage, 80 mph exit velo. Defensively, soft consistent hands, slightly above average feet, showed athleticism on the slow roller, 73 mph.
Mason Skrimager, SS, Enid HS, 2019
A 5-foot-9, 160-pound athletic frame. Offensively, right-handed hitter, middle-oppo approach, line drive results, one of the best rounds of BP at the event. Open stance with bend in the knees, knee-knock leg kick, quick hands, and high finish, 77 exit velo. Defensively, slightly above average hands, average feet, quick short arm action, 73 mph.
Fabian Valles, 2B, Hennessey HS, 2018
A 5-foot-5, 145-pound frame. Defensively, good feet, average hands, ball gets deep at times, 67 mph across the infield. Offensively, right-handed hitter, middle of the field, ground ball approach. Hits form a wide, slightly back leg heavy stance, small leg lift, short stride, short to the ball, rotational abbreviated finish. Ran a 4.33 home-to-first.
