Season Outlook
The 2017 Heritage Hall Chargers will again be a force in the class 4A ranks returning six starting position players and five pitchers with more than 15 innings of work on the mound each as they look to repeat as state champions.
On the mound, the Chargers will be lead by the right-handed Arizona commit Roman Phansalkar, 85th in the PBR 2017 overall rankings. Phansalkar will have plenty of help from Cowley County commit Brady Ballard and Eastern Oklahoma State commit Devin Crawford. Big bodied, hard-throwing junior Carson Orton will also look to have a big impact this year along with fellow junior Blake Adams. The strong armed Chandler Shapard will likely fill the closing roll for the Chargers. Overall, this staff will have as much velocity as any in the state.
Many of the same athletes that will star on the mound for Heritage Hall will also lead the way at the dish. Adams, Orton, Ballard and Phansalkar will combine for a dangerous middle of the order with all showing some pop. Mat Evans will also bring some senior leadership to the lineup.
Defensively, it will again be Adams and Phansalkar that lead the way, playing in the middle infield. The outfield will be solid with four solid defenders on the roster. Ballard will get most of the reps in center field alongside Shapard, who has one of the strongest arms from the outfield in the 2017 class. Returning starter Preston Taylor and senior Grant Walton will also see valuable time. A capable sophomore, Mart Smith, will be charged with filing the void left by three graduating catchers.
