holiday hitters - sattz's standouts

We couldn't have asked for a better ending to the 2021 season than with our first ever Hitters Only Showcase. There was a ton of talent from the senior class all the way through the 2026 class and intriguing uncommitted talent everywhere.

As we continue to break down all the hitters we saw last Sunday, PBR Ontario Scout Ryan Sattz's breaks down five of them that caught his eye. He takes a look at a pair of uncommitted Windsor Selects, a pair of high upside 2023s and a Division I commit.

Calvin Warrillow OF / SS / Greenwood College, ON / 2023

A standout at the showcase was Warrillow, a 2023 graduate. He brought a lot of tools to the plate, displaying a simple approach with little moving parts in his swing. During his three rounds of BP, he didn’t get cheated on any of his swings, driving the ball gap to gap. A key advantage to his swing is how quick his hands moved to the ball, as well as the adjustments made to catch solid barrels. Hands were a strong component of his swing as he adjusted well to different pitch locations. With an exit velo up to 97, Warrillow will be an interesting name to watch in the 2023 class.

Joe Moszcelt 1B / OF / Abbey Park, ON / 2023

Moszcelt is a skilled uncommitted right-handed hitter who turned heads at the Holiday Hitters Showcase. Using a big frame to his advantage, he stayed in his legs and has an explosive lower half. He hit up the middle and to the opposite field for most of the day with pop to all parts of the diamond. During contact, he extended his hands well to get maximum power on all of his hits. Exit velo was at 91 and he showed some serious tools at the plate to watch out for.

Colby Ariss SS / RHP / Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic, ON / 2023

Ariss exhibited good swings to the pull side and solid barrels to the opposite field. The VCU commit is a projectable player who already has major tools that will translate well at the college level. His swing has a clean approach with his hands often getting above the barrel allowing for good leverage on the ball. The bat path looked smooth and easy resulting in a solid swing path each time.

Kanaan Gale 1B / 3B / Cardinal Carter catholic high school , ON / 2022

Gale's a solid RHH who had a very loud day at the plate. He stayed in his legs well, allowing for pop to all areas of the field. With his hands showing well at the plate he has an aggressive approach to the ball. Kannan's body control was impressive as every swing looked relaxed and was extremely clean. Swing is short to the ball but very compact.

Andrew Sleiman OF / Cardinal Carter, ON / 2022

It was a good day at the plate for the uncommitted 2022 out of the Windsor Selects program. A big body who had one of the highest exit velos of the day at 93 MPH, Sleiman stayed pull side for most of the day with good elevation on all of his swings. Sleiman his back hip well to generate extra momentum going forward, tall frame and good build. He’s a steal for JUCOs looking for a project bat in the 2022 class.
