Montreal Open ID: Quick Hits
September 17, 2022
On Wednesday, September 17th, our staff was in Montreal to host the Montreal Open ID at Complexe Sportif Claude Robillard. The event gave our staff a look at over 45 players from Quebec, as well as collect data on each of them using our TrackMan machine.
We saw a ton of 2024 and 2025 prospects with a few seniors and freshmen sprinkled in. We continue to unpack everything from the event below as we take a look at five of the top performers from the event.

Jonah Miranda C / 1B / Maxwell Heights, ON / 2023Miranda, 5-foot-10, 190-pounds, was a standout catcher at the Montreal Open ID. Behind the dish, Miranda shows quick twitch actions allowing him to get rid of the ball and have plenty of carry on his throws that got up to 73 mph. In the box, Miranda has plenty of bat speed, creating consistent hard contact to his pull-side. Miranda was one of the better players at the event and is an easy pickup for a school at the next level.

Alexandre Giguere C / SS / ecole Pointe-Levy, QC / 2024Giguere, 5-foot-10, 145-pounds, stood out on the infield and behind the dish in Montreal this past week. Giguere's athletic frame allows him to move around the infield with clean hands and an accurate arm. Behind the dish, it's a quick transfer and accurate, quick arm that has carry to 2B with a 2.00-2.09 pop. In the box, Giguere uses a small leg kick for timing, and catches the ball out front for some hard contact to his pull-side. Giguere will be one to keep tabs on as he continues to develop.

Nicholas Moretto SS / 2B / South Carleton, ON / 2024Moretto, 6-foot-2, 160-pounds, was easily one of the biggest standouts we had in Montreal. The tall, lengthy middle infielder shows clean actions on the dirt with clean hands and an arm that works across the diamond. At the dish, Moretto creates leverage and is able to get the ball in the air with loud, consistent contact to his pull-side with a 88 mph EV. Moretto is a projectable middle infielder that schools should be keeping tabs on going forward.

Lucas St-Laurent RHP / 2B / ecole secondaire du Triolet Sherbrooke, QC / 2022St-Laurent, 5-foot-11, 145-pounds, was the best young prospect we saw at the Montreal Open ID. Quick, clean arm action and the ability to throw 4 pitches for strikes. The FB lives at the knees, and he has advanced feel with the CB has depth to it. St-Laurent is one of the more promising ‘26 arms we have seen to date and will be a must follow going forward is Quebec.

Jean-Philippe Guilbeault SS / 2B / Saint-Gabriel, QC / 2025Guilbeault, 5-foot-5, 125-pounds, is undersized, but he showed all the right actions on the field and in the box this past week in Montreal. At short, Guilbeault shows proper footwork and clean hands with the ability to make throws across the diamond. In the box, it's an athletic swing that was able to catch barrels to all fields throughout his round of BP. It will be interesting to see how Guilbeault develops as he continues to get bigger and stronger.
