GAME 1 Quick Hits - CPBL All-Star Game
Today was Day 1 of the All-Star Weekend for the CPBL and it didn’t disappoint with some of the best players in the country all on one field.
Lots of runs as there was 17 in total as Black took game 1 by a score of 12-5. The twitter feed and IG pages are jam packed with highlights from the day, and we take a quick look at some of the players that were impact in today’s game 1 of a 3 game set over the next three days.
And yes, 6 of the 7 players are uncommitted………..??  |
Brando Leroux SS / St Augustine, ON / 2021Rankings StateRank: 5 / POS: 3
Report: Leroux had two knocks on the day while being consistent at short and starting double play balls with glove flips and being the tough out with quality at-bats we’ve been accustomed too. The Chipola commit stands out with the actions and ability to handle velocity, and always seems to be having fun on the field. A nice start to the weekend for the Canadian National team infielder.

Cameron Chee-Aloy OF / Neil McNeil, ON / 2022Rankings StateRank: 5 / POS: 2
Report: 2022 Cameron Chee-Aloy, an uncommitted outfielder from the Ontario Terriers had a good day at the dish highlighted by a three-run shot to his pull side. He’s 5-foot-11, 160-pounds with quick twitch and bat speed from the right-side. He was finding barrels all day, picking up two hits and the swing works to all fields. Didn’t get the chance to see the speed today but Chee-Aloy also ran a 6.87 at the Future Games Trials back in August. The tools are there from the Terriers product who’s currently one of the top uncommitted players in the province.

Cameron Gurney C / Pauline Johnson, ON / 2022Rankings StateRank: 17 / POS: 3
Report: 2022 Cam Gurney, a strong left-handed hitting catcher from Fieldhouse, showed off some pop with a homerun to the opposite field. More hit over power but with the strength and constant barrels, he continues to drive balls deep to all fields. Still raw with actions behind the plate but the arm strength is there. Gurney has really jumped onto the scene this summer and has continued to show well against top competition.

Turner Spoljaric RHP / National High School , ON / 2021Rankings StateRank: 7 / POS: 2
Report: Uncommitted 2022 Turner Spoljaric came in with a presence on the mound today, making quick work of his innings. Fastball sat 87-89, topping out at 90 and was able to establish his curveball as well, getting a lot of swing and miss on both pitches. There’s pitchability and it’s a quick arm that works. Mixed in a changeup at 83-86, a pitch that is still developing but with added feel could make him very intriguing heading into next years’ draft. It’s been a good summer for Spoljaric and it will be interesting to see if he can elevate his game to the next level in the spring.

David Alvarez OF / St. Joan of Arc, ON / 2022Rankings StateRank: 38 / POS: 3
Report: Alvarez, a left-handed hitting 2022 corner outfielder didin’t have a ton of results today in the box score, but he made plays in right-field along with arm strength, showed aggressiveness at the plate with bat speed and was rewarded late with a single you can watch below through the right side. The body is going to gain a lot more strength and he is going to be one of the top 22’s in the province. Definite uncommitted 22’ to be on.

Matthew Brown RHP / Iroquois Ridge, ON / 2021Rankings StateRank: 48 / POS: 15
Report: Uncommitted 2021 Matt Brown is a big right-hander from the Terriers who proved to be one of the top arms on the day, pounding the strike zone with a fastball, curveball combination. It’s a strong frame at 6-foot-3, 235-pounds and the fastball sat 87-88 through all three of his innings of work. Had feel for a curveball 75-76 which he was able to throw for strikes and catch hitters out front. With the size and stuff, Brown is an arm college coaches should be on.

Jacob Miller C / ONeill CVI, ON / 2021Rankings StateRank: 30 / POS: 4
Report: Miller jumps on this page today with real good at-bats with him being aggressive early and getting pitches to hit, and not missing them. He had multiple hits on the day, he runs fine, throws well, projects to add more strength and the uncommitted 2021 has tools to work with. Somewhat of a sleeper for some guys, Miller has tools and today was a small glimpse with him handling the bat.

Myles Naylor SS / St. Joan of Arc, ON / 2023Rankings OverallRank: 46 / POS: 9
Report: 2023 Texas Tech commit Myles Naylor, one of the youngest players at the event, stood his own at the dish against some of Ontario’s top arms. He was swinging the bat well from the right-side, working counts and drove a fastball to deep left-centre for a double. A switch-hitting infielder from the Ontario Blue Jays who projects as a corner guy and is someone to keep tabs on this weekend as he goes up against older competition. |
