2018 PBR Future Games Preview: Team Pennsylvania Outfielders

Greg Williams
Pennsylvania Director of Scouting

2018 marks the 7th year that Pennsylvania will be represented in the PBR Future Games. This one-of-a-kind event will feature the best uncommitted Class of 2020 & select 2021 prospects from our 35-plus state coverage area. The Future Games will take place on August 1 - 4 (Wednesday-Saturday) at Grand Park, a state-of-the-art 22-field baseball complex located in Westfield, IN, just north of Indianapolis.

The Prep Baseball Report Future Games is the premier summer scouting event for Class of 2020/2021 prospects. Last year, more than 250 college coaches from all over the country were in attendance, making it arguably the most heavily recruited event of the summer.

Today we continue a preview of the 19 prospects that will represent the Keystone State as members of Team Pennsylvania with a look at four outfielders.

Team Pennsylvania outfielders

Dylan DuCharme OF / Spring-Ford, PA / 2021

2018 Eastern PA Top Prospect Games
5-foot-10, 170-pound left-handed hitter starts from a slightly open stance and initiates his swing with a lift-and-replace stride. Showcased fluid swing with ability to spray the ball around the field during an excellent round of batting practice. Nursing a badly sprained finger went on to go 4-for-6 at the plate in game action. Registered an 85 mph bat exit velocity, 84 mph arm strength from the outfield and ran a 6.97 60-yard dash. Displayed athletic defensive actions with the ability to play all three outfield positions. All-around skill set is advanced and athletic frame has room to continue to develop over the coming years. Definite high follow in the Class of 2021.

Bobby Lane OF / Penn-Trafford, PA / 2020

2018 Western PA Top Prospect Games
6-foot, 180-pound left-handed hitter took arguably the top round of BP at the event. He sets up in a square stance and initiates his swing with a short, controlled stride to square. Clears his lower half well and allows his hands to work through contact. Displayed an advanced feel for the barrel with present gap-to-gap power that will likely develop as his athletic frame continues to fill out. Went 2-for-3 in game action while barreling the baseball in all three at bats on day one. Did not participate on day two due to a prior commitment. Ran a 6.82 60-yard dash and showcased similar athletic actions in the outfield with 82 mph arm strength. Likely a corner outfielder at the next level, but also plays first base and could develop into a middle-of-the order bat at that position given time and continued physical development.

Domenic Popa OF / Seton LaSalle Catholic, PA / 2020

2018 Western PA Top Prospect Games
5-foot-10, 170-pound left-handed hitter is currently ranked No. 44 in the PA Class of 2020 and will be participating as a member of Team Pennsylvania this August in the 2018 PBR Future Games in Indiana. Popa took one of the top rounds of batting practice at the event and carried that into game play going 6-for-7 over the course of two games. The lefty showed advanced feel for his barrel lining hits to all fields while nearly beating out a infield single in the lone at bat where he was retired. Currently nursing a hamstring, Popa did not run the 60-yard dash but has run a 6.90 at past events. The primary outfielder showcased 83 mph arm strength during defensive evaluations, an 86 mph bat exit velocity and worked three scoreless innings on the mound.

Lonnie White Jr. OF / Malvern Prep, PA / 2021

2018 High School Season
6-foot-3, 200-pound freshman looks the part of a college freshman physically. Showed athletic actions in everything he did on the day. Three sport varsity starter as a frosh. Got down the line in 4.40 on a one hop barreled ground out to shortstop. Barreled a line drive to center field for an out and hit a long home run to right-center field. Will have opportunities to play all three sports at the next level.
