Daily Roundup: March 27 Games

VandersliceMother nature decided to cooperate for once allowing a significant number of games to be played for the first time this season. Following is a recap of some of the action highlighted by a pitchers duel in a battle of highly ranked teams.

Archbishop Ryan 9  #1 La Salle 2

  • Bob Romano (home run) and Gage Galeone (triple) carried the big sticks as Archbishop Ryan beat #1 La Salle in a Philadelphia Catholic League game. Winning pitcher Chris Helms limited La Salle to just three hits.

#6 Monsignor Bonner 2  #15 Neumann-Goretti 0

  • Temple-bound RHP Pat Vanderslice pitched a complete game three-hitter to lead #6 Bonner to a 2-0 win over #15 Neumann-Goretti. The same two teams will play again on Saturday.

#7 Hatboro-Horsham 10  Sidwell Friends School (DC) 0

  • St. Joseph's recruit Ryan Kelly pitched a complete game one hit shutout to lead the Hatters to a 10-0 victory over Sidwell Friends (DC) at Disney's Spring Training. Kelly took a no hitter into the 6th inning when he gave up a double with two outs. Unsigned senior Grant Opalisky and Seton Hall recruit Zach Prendergast led the offense. Opalisky was 2-for-4 with two RBI. Prendergast was 2-for-4 with two runs scored. Brad Humski had a double, one RBI and two runs scored.

#9 Boyertown 3  Perkiomen Valley 2

  • Boyertown rallied for three 5th inning runs to erase a 2-0 deficit and Dan Woodley held Perkiomen Valley to five hits.

St. Joseph's Prep 10  Roman Catholic 0

  • Penn State recruit Tom Mullin tossed a no-hitter striking out seven.

McDowell 13  Clarkstown (NY) 11

  • McDowell survived a six run rally by Clarkstown in the bottom of the 7th inning to move to 2-0. Penn State Behrend recruit Brian Bohman went 3-for-4 with two doubles and three RBI to lead the Trojan offense.

Kennett 11  Sun Valley 10

  • Kennett and Sun Valley took out their frustrations with the weather by combining for 21 runs. Jake Burrell went 3-for-4 with two doubles and four RBI to lead Kennett.

Central Bucks East  5  William Tennent  3

  • CB East took advantage of a first inning error to plate four runs and held on for a 5-3 win in spite of being out hit 8-3 on the afternoon. Ethan Rode had a double and two RBI fo  CB East.

Jenkintown 10  New Foundations Charter 1

  • Greg Wagner baffled New Foundations Charter School, striking out nine batters. He allowed no earned runs on three hits and two walks over five innings.

Central Dauphin 4  Central Dauphin East 2 (9 Innings)

  • It took two extra innings, but Central Dauphin was able to plate three runs in the top of the ninth to knock off CD East. Tim Hobbs went 3-for-3 and Nate Dickey gave the Rams 5.2 innings of solid work on the mound.

Pleasant Valley 6  Northampton 3

  • Northampton dropped a 6-3 decision even though they outhit Pleasant Valley 9-4. Radford recruit Dan Hrbek led Pleasant Valley with a 2-for-4 day.

Lower Dauphin 5  Cumberland Valley 4

  • Cumberland Valley scored twice in the top of the seventh to tie the game at 4, but Lower Dauphin answered with a run in the bottom of the inning to take home the win. Blair Lewis got the win in relief for Lower Dauphin. Lewis pitched 2.2 innings and allowed two runs.

Lancaster Catholic  7  Lebanon  2

  • SS Bryan Haberstroh, a NJIT recruit, went 3-for-3 with a triple, a home run and an RBI to lead Lancaster Catholic. Willie Burger chipped in with two hits including a triple for the Crusaders.
