PBR Spotlight Game: Titusville vs. Sharpsville

Today's Spotlight Game:  Titusville (17-2) vs. Sharpsville (17-1), 4 p.m.

Slippery Rock University's Jack Critchfield Park will host three District 10 playoff games today, but on paper the second game of the day is the one to watch.  All three games are semi-final contests with the winners advancing to Monday's District 10 Championships back at Slippery Rock University.

Sharpsville comes into the game red hot having defeated Commodore Perry in the first round 12-7. The Blue Devils used an 11 run fourth inning to do most of their damage. Kevin Yarabinec, Class of 2012,   started the game and went the first four innings. On the day he continually sat at 87-89 with his fastball and topped out at 91MPH. Yarabinec allowed only two hits and aided his performance by having a strong day at the plate. He hit a towering triple off the wall in the fourth inning to clear the bases and later scored himself. Greg Popatak, Class of 2015, leads Sharpsville with a .534 batting average and was two-for-two with a double and two RBI on Tuesday against Commodore Perry.  As a team Sharpsville is hitting .325.  Kevin Yarabinec is available to start today’s game on the mound.

                    Kevin Yarabinec     Adam Bleday

The Titusville Rockets have the potential to give Sharpsville all they can handle. Titusville picked up the win in five innings on Tuesday against the Union City Bears winning 15–2. Against Union City, left handed pitcher, Adam Bleday threw three innings and only allowed one earned run. With Bleday only throwing three innings, he too will be available in today’s game. On the season Bleday has a 0.36 ERA with 59 innings pitched and is ranked No. 7 in the Class of 2013 by Prep Baseball Report. Bleday went 9 innings and struck out 23 hitters in a game against Youngsville earlier this season.

The Rockets pitching staff has a combined 0.90 ERA and has only allowed 17 earned runs on the season. Offensively, the Rockets have a team batting average of .300 and an on base percentage of .388. Luke Hipple, Class of 2012, leads the team with a .534 batting average and two home runs.
