Eastern PA Fall Review Analysis: Class of 2019 Pitchers & Two-Way Prospects

The Eastern PA Fall Review, the second in a series of three fall events that will culminate with the Invitation Only Elite Prospect Showcase on October 28, took place on September 23rd. Nearly 30 prospects from three states showcased their abilities at Widener University. Today we continue our analysis of the prospects in attendance at the Eastern PA Fall Review by taking a look at Class of 2019 prospects that participated as pitchers and two-way prospects.

CLASS OF 2019 pitchers & two-way prospects

Conner Bartholomew, SS/RHP, Archmere Academy (DE)
5-foot-11, 165-pound right-handed hitter starts from a slightly open stance and initiates his swing with a leg-hang stride. Displayed a solid fee for the barrel with a bat exit velocity of 78 mph. Showcased active feet defensively with accurate 77 mph arm strength across the diamond while running a 7.37 60-yard dash. Sat 75-77 off the mound out of a 3/4 arm slot. Hides ball well with a long arm stroke and extends glove hand to make release point deceptive to hitter. Also showcased a curveball with 11/5 rotation at 66-67 and a 66 mph changeup at near fastball arm speed. 

Blake Griscom, LHP/1B, Woodstown HS (NJ)
5-foot-9, 145-pound primary pitcher sat 70-71 from a high 3/4 arm slot. Also commanded a changeup with similar arm speed at 65-67. Strike thrower worked three innings allowing four hits and two runs while striking out two. Left-handed hitter starts from a square stance and initiates his swing with a leg-lift stride. Went 1-for-3 in game two while registering a bat exit velocity of 76 mph. Ran a 7.40 60-yard dash and showcased capable defensive actions at first base with accurate 71 mph arm strength across the diamond.

Drew Iaia, OF/RHP, Avon Grove HS (PA)
6-foot, 170-pound right-handed hitter starts from a slightly open stance and utilizes a leg-hang stride to initiate his swing. Launches hands from a low load and uses an aggressive hip turn to create an 85 mph bat exit velocity. Went 2-for-3 with a double and a run scored in game two while also swiping two bases on the day. Ran a 7.23 60-yard dash and displayed athletic actions in the outfield while consistently playing through the baseball. Recorded 83 mph arm strength with straight line carry on throws to home plate. Sat 77-79 out of a high 3/4 arm slot on the mound while working three innings with no hits allowed and three strikeouts. Curveball at 64-66 with 12/6 rotation has a chance to be an out pitch at the next level. Also commanded a changeup at 73-75 with similar arm speed.

Trey Law, SS/RHP, Cedar Cliff HS (PA)
5-foot-10, 135-pound left-handed hitter starts from an open stance and utilizes a leg-hang stride with a high hands load to initiate his swing. Hands work well through contact and lower half generate solid barrel whip for size. Registered an 82 mph bat exit velocity and showed good balance throughout swing. Showcased athletic defensive actions with active feet and the ability to make throws from several arm angles. Registered 79 mph arm strength across the diamond and ran a 7.52 60-yard dash. Sat 76-78 from a high 3/4 arm slot on the mound while also commanding a curveball at 62-63 with 11/5 rotatiion and a slider with shorter break at 67-70. Worked two scoreless innings allowing two hits.

Michael Moyer, RHP, Christopher Dock HS (PA)
5-foot-11, 205-pound righty pounded the strike zone out of a 3/4 arm slot with a fastball that sat 73-75. Also commanded a curveball with 10/4 rotation at 60-61 thrown out of the same window as his fastball. Worked solely out of the stretch and dominated for three innings working quickly. Allowed just one hit while striking out three and induced four ground ball outs.

Luke Taylor, RHP, Souderton Area HS (PA)
6-foot, 175-pound righty sat 78-80 from a 3/4 arm slot working three scoreless innings with two hits allowed and two strikeouts. Also commanded a slider at 66-67 and a changeup at 71-72 at near fastball arm speed. Starts motion with an aggressive side rocker step and long arm motion in back includes a bit of a hook. Some hip coil in lower half adds deception to the delivery. Solid frame with good balance. Additional velocity is likely as he continues to grow and add strength.

Cole Whitton, RHP/3B, Perkiomen Valley HS (PA)
5-foot-11, 175-pound primary pitcher sat 75-77 from a high 3/4 arm slot allowing one run on four hits. Showed solid command of a four-pitch mix that also included a curveball with 11/5 rotation at 65-66, a slider with shorter break at 70-71 and a changeup at near fastball arm speed at 67-68. The right-handed hitter starts from a square stance and utilizes a short, lift-and-replace stride to initiate his swing. Registered an 86 mph bat exit velocity and ran a 7.97 60-yard dash. Displayed capable actions defensively at third base with accurate 76 mph arm strength across the diamond.
