Five Pennsylvania Prep Players Selected in MLB Draft



Five Pennsylvania high school players received the call they had been waiting for over the past few days and each now has a very important decision to make. 

The first Pennsylvania player to be selected was Garnet Valley's Joe DeCarlo. Decarlo was selected in the second round by the Mariners. He is a 6-foot-1, 205-pound shortstop and is the No. 2 ranked player in the Class of 2012. The Virginia recruit is likely to be moved to third base at the next level.

Jake Drossner, a 6-foot-3, 195-pound LHP from Council Rock North was the next player off the board.  Drossner, the No. 3 ranked player in the Class of 2012, was taken in the 23rd round by the Cubs. Drossner is committed to the University of Maryland.

The final three rounds of the draft resulted in the final three Pennsylvania prep players receiving a call. In round 38, Carlos Urena went to the Royals.  Urena is a 6-foot-2, 200-pound outfielder from Whitehall High School.

Round 39 saw Florida State commit, and the No. 15 ranked player in the Class of 2012, John Sansone being drafted by the Tigers. Sansone is a 6-foot-0, 190-pound shortstop from Neshannock High School.

The final player to be drafted went to his hometown team, the Pittsburgh Pirates.  The Pirates used their final pick in round 40 to select Zarley Zalewski, a Kent State University recruit. Zalewsky is a 6-foot-3, 195-pound shortstop.
