Game Recap: Dubois at Hollidaysburg

Devon WalkerDuBois (Class 4A) went on the road and won a game featuring two of the top teams in the Central Penn League. The Beavers pulled out a well-played 3-2 win on Monday at Hollidaysburg (Class 3A). Junior righty Devon Walker went the distance giving up five hits and both runs in the third inning. Walker struck out six and walked just one.

DuBois got on the board in the first with an Evan Bush RBI double to right-center to score Walker who had walked. Hollidaysburg  took a brief lead in the 3rd when they scored both of their runs. Thayne Russell tripled home Adam Fluke and Trent Sipes followed with a sacrifice fly to center to score Russell to take a short lived 2-1 lead.

DuBois answered right back in the fourth with a two-run inning of its own. A Derek Heckathorne walk and Jake Felix double led off the inning. After a strikeout, Nick Bontempo singled home Heckathorne. A balk was called with runners on first and third base to score the second run. Walker made the 3-2 lead stand over the final three frames.

DH Jake Felix led DuBois with a 3-for-4 effort. Russell went 2-for-3 to lead the Golden Tigers’ offense. Hollidaysburg senior lefty Dom Viduya went 5.2 innings, giving up three earned runs on five hits. Despite walking five, Viduya struck out five. Brett Hileman got the last four outs, striking out one and giving up one hit. Hileman left the bases loaded in the top of the sixth when he coaxed a groundout to end the inning.

DuBois improved to 12-3, with a 4-2 Central Penn record. Hollidaysburg fell to 12-5, with a 4-2 record in the Central Penn.
