Game Recap: Eastern Pennsylvania Conference Quarterfinals

Parkland 7, Emmaus 2

Michael JenkinsEmmaus opened the game with back-to-back singles by junior Eric Cichocki and sophomore Evan Marushak but Michael Jenkins (right) used a fielder's choice and two strikeouts to escape the 1st inning without allowing a run.

The junior righty worked 4.2 innings allowing two unearned runs while registering eight strikeouts and Parkland jumped on Emmaus starter Todd Moxey for five runs in the 3rd inning to coast to a win.

Cullan Wadsworth (3B, R), Tyler Bruno (HR) and Austin Mueller (2-3, R) fueled the Parkland offense. 2016 RHP Braeden Duff worked the final 2.1 innings facing one batter over the minimum while allowing just one hit.

Parkland moves on to the EPC semifinals on Tuesday and will face Freedom, a 5-1 winner on Saturday over Stroudsburg.  

Liberty 5, whitehall 3

Liberty scored three runs in the bottom of the 3rd inning and rode the right arm of senior Alexis Caleron to a quarterfinal win over Whitehall. Caleron worked six solid innings allowing six hits and two earned runs while striking out seven.

The Zephyrs jumped on the board first when senior outfielder Gianni Sinatore ripped a triple to the center field wall on the second pitch of the game and scored on a one out single by Alex Bruneio.

Liberty scored three runs with two outs in the bottom of the second to take a 3-1 lead. Kyle Hlavaty's bunt single plated Ben Hudock, an IUP recruit, who had singled and stolen second to lead off the inning. Elias Gross followed with a single to left field to drive in two giving Liberty the lead.

Jarred Burcin extended Liberty's lead to 4-1 with a one out solo home run in the bottom of the 3rd inning. Bruneio's two-run home run in the top of the 4th inning cut the lead to 4-3. A two-out RBI single by senior Kyle Ross rounded out the scoring for Liberty in the bottom of the 6th.

Sinatore (2-3, 3B, R) and Bruneio (3-3, HR, 3 RBI) led the Whitehall seven hit attack. Hlvaty went 2-for-3 with an RBI and a run scored out of the nine hole to lead Liberty.

Liberty moves on to the EPC semifinals on Tuesday and will face Allentown Central Catholic, a 5-3 winner on Saturday over Easton.
