PA Director of Scouting

Ainsworth Field hosted a District 10 semifinals doubleheader on Friday with offensive explosions playing a role in both games. Following is a recap of the action with winners advancing to the finals on May 26.

Cathedral Prep 10, Harbor Creek 0

Carter CrossThe Ramblers got a complete game three-hitter from RHP Sam Riley, an Indiana University of PA recruit, and scored nine of their 10 runs in the 3rd, 4th and 5th innings to win going away. Junior RF Billy Snyder's two-RBI double in the 5th capped a third consecutive three-run frame and served and led to the walk-off win in five innings. 2016 CF Carter Cross led the Cathedral Prep 12 hit attack going 3-for-4 with three runs scored and an RBI.

The Ramblers will face the Corry Beavers, 5-1 winners over Grove City, in the District 10 3A finals on May 26. The title game will be played at 2:30 at Ainsworth Field following the completion of the 4A sub-regional game between McDowell (District 10) and Perry Traditional Academy (District 8) that starts at noon.

Northwestern 12, Saegertown 7

Saegertown's stranglehold on District 10 Class 2A baseball has ended. The three-time defending 2A title winners were of all things out-hit by the Wildcats. For the better part of the last four years the Panthers have carved up pitchers throughout the district and won games going away because of their offense. Yesterday it was Northwestern that did a number on Panthers' pitchers eliminating Saegertown from a potential fourth D10 title in four years.

To dissect how the Wildcats managed to get the job done there is no need to look past the top of the order. The top three hitters in the lineup combined to go 9-for-12 with three walks and nine runs scored. Following is a look at the top three hitters in the Wildcats individually.

Dylan Bird2016 C Dylan Bird

- Bird (top right) sent a message when he hit a line drive single to center field on the game's first pitch. The 5-foot-10, 155-pound catcher went 2-for-4 with a walk on the evening. Bird also flashed athletic actions behind the plate with pop times of 2.15-2.20 between innings.

Griffin Hites2015 2B Griffin Hites

- Hites (middle right) had a night to remember in the 2-hole for the Wildcats. The 6-foot, 150-pound junior went 4-for-4 with a walk and four runs scored.

2014 RHP Jay Clinger

Jay Clinger- The Pitt-Bradford recruit (bottom right) went the distance on the mound and supported his own cause by going 3-for-4 with a walk and a pivotal three-run home run that extended the Wildcats lead to seven runs in the 3rd inning.
