PA Top Prospect Games: Red Team Analysis

Red Team TPG 2013

The Red Team showcased a host of strong hitters and solid pitching leading to wins in both of their games played over two days at Bucknell University. Following is a breakdown of the prospects who participated as part of the Red Team at the 2013 PA Top Prospect Games.

RHP Mark Artley, Milton HS, Class of 2014

Artley threw the first three innings for the Red Team on day two. The 5-foot-9, 160-pound prospect worked from a high 3/4 arm slot sitting 78-79 with command of a 64mph 10/4 breaking curveball and a 69 mph changeup that showed solid late downward movement. Artley was extremely efficient facing just nine batters over three innings without giving up a hit, while striking out two.

RHP/1B Luke Basko, Saegertown HS, Class of 2014

Basko entered the Top Prospect Games coming off an injury suffered during the high school season when he was struck with a line drive on his pitching forearm. Throwing for the first time in nearly six weeks the 6-foot, 155-pound right-hander sat 79-81 while touching 82 during his work on the mound. Basko also showed command of a 70 mph 11/5 breaking curveball and an effective two seam fastball that showed late movement. He projects as a pitcher at the next level, but also demonstrated solid glove work at 1B and an 84 mph bat exit velocity.

OF Shane Connahan, Midd-West HS, Class of 2014

Connahan is a 6-foot, 175-pound left-handed hitter that runs well (6.90) and has a solid arm from the outfield (85 mph). He showed the ability to square the baseball consistently with some pop during his round of batting practice. Connahan hits out of a square stance and his fat bat path allows his barrel to remain in the hitting zone for a long period of time. He went 2-for-7 with a double and an infield single that he legged out with his foot speed during game play.

SS Nick Dunn, Shikellamy HS, Class of 2015

Dunn is a 5-foot-9, 155-pound prospect that showed a great deal of promise. The left-handed hitter showed quick hands, a short stroke and the ability to use all fields in a strong round of batting practice. He showed good feet, a fluid transfer and good carry on throws of 79 mph during defensive evaluations. Dunn went 3-for-6 in game play including an inside-the-park homerun to right center field that allowed him to show his advanced foot speed.

3B/OF Drew Durasa, Saegertown HS, Class of 2015

Durasa is a 5-foot-10, 155-pound right-handed hitter that showed versatility defensively. He showcased a 75 mph arm across the diamond and a 76 mph bat exit velocity hitting out of a square stance. Durasa had a single in the Red Team's two-run 7th inning in game one that helped his team secure a 7-5 win.

OF Bailey Hammer, The Hun School (NJ), Class of 2014

Hammer showed well in all facets of the game. The 5-foot-11, 165-pound OF hits out of a square stance with a high hands load. While his bat exit velocity of 76 mph wasn't eye popping, his hand eye coordination and the ability to square everything up was. Hammer went 2-for-7 with a triple in game play and displayed athletic actions in the outfield with good carry on throws of 75 mph.

2B/RHP Dalton Haymaker, Delone Catholic HS, Class of 2014

Haymaker displayed quick hands and good hips during a solid round of batting practice hitting out of a slightly open stance. He showcased an 80 mph bat exit velocity and a solid arm on throws of 77 mph across the diamond. Haymaker showed promise in his work on the mound. The 5-foot-9, 170-pound righty sat 78-81 out of a high 3/4 arm slot. He also commanded an 11/5 breaking curveball at 70 mph and a changeup thrown at near fastball arm speed at 66 mph.

C Colby Lahr, Shikellamy HS, Class of 2015

Lahr showcased a square stance and a line drive stroke with a bat exit velocity of 77 mph. He displayed promise defensively with pop times of 2.16-2.24 on throws of 66 mph out of the crouch. The 6-foot, 160-pound prospect also showed sound receiving and blocking skills during game play.

RHP Christian McClure, Cumberland Valley HS, Class of 2014

McClure is a solidly built 5-foot-10, 170-pound RHP who gave up one run in three innings of work in game one for the Red Team. He worked out of a high 3/4 arm slot sitting 80-81 while pounding the strike zone. McClure also commanded a 65 mph 11/5 breaking curveball and a 71 mph changeup thrown at near fastball arm speed. He struck out three in his three innings of work yielding just two hits.

SS/RHP Grayson Miller, East Pennsboro HS, Class of 2015

The 5-foot-9, 165-pound two-way player had a very solid round of batting practice hitting from a square stance. The right-handed hitter displayed good extension to his swing and the ability to use all fields with an 85 mph bat exit speed. Miller went on to go 2-for-4 in game play. He showed athletic actions in the field and a fastball that sat 74-76 in game play.

C/3B Alex Salesky, Wilson West Lawn HS, Class of 2014

Salesky continues to make strides as a catcher, impressing with his 2.00-2.08 pop times on throws of 75 mph from the crouch. The 5-foot-9, 155-pound left-handed hitter had a solid event at the plate as well. Hitting from a square stance, Salesky showcased a short, line drive stroke and the ability to use all fields. He went 4-for-6 in game play and turned in a bat exit velocity of 84 mph.

2B/RHP Devon Walker, DuBois HS, Class of 2014

Walker showcased a square stance, and short swing path in a round of batting practice that saw him square the baseball to all fields. The 5-foot-9, 160-pound two-way prospect turned in an 87 mph bat exit velocity and went 1-for-5 with a double and a sacrifice fly in game play. The sure handed middle infielder showed good range and a 79 mph arm across the diamond with a quick release. Walker sat 81-82 from the mound with a sharp breaking 74 mph curveball and a 75 mph change up in his arsenal. Walker's all-around skill set will make him a coveted recruit in this class.

Kyle WiseOF Kyle Wise, Saegertown HS, Class of 2014

Wise is a 5-foot-11, 170-pound prospect with athletic actions in the outfield, the foot speed to go get the ball and an event best 91 mph arm. He showcased a square stance and solid lower half in driving the baseball consistently during his round of batting practice. Wise went on to go 3-for-6 with a triple in game play earning MVP honors for the Red Team.
