PBR Future Games Analysis: Team Pennsylvania

Team Pennsylvania went 2-1 over the span of game play at the 2016 PBR Future Games riding outstanding pitching, solid defense and timely hitting to a pair of wins.

Following is a brief look at each of the 15 prospects on the Pennsylvania roster and a recap of their performance at the event.

Team Pennsylvania

James Balogh, RHP/OF, Pocono Mountain East HS, Class of 2018
5-foot-11, 160-pound primary pitcher worked three scoreless innings over two games. Allowed one hit, walked two and struck out three while inducing two double plays. Flashed a quick arm with some cut to his fastball that sat 83-84. 72 mph curveball showed 10/4 rotation with short, late break. Ran a 7.11 60-yard dash, flashed 82 mph arm strength from the outfield and an 85 mph bat exit velocity.

Thomas Caufield, SS, West Chester Henderson HS, Class of 2018
6-foot-1, 165-pound athlete with long levers and plenty of quick twitch actions. Stood out defensively all weekend with fluid actions, advanced range and plenty of arm strength (84 mph with quick release and in rhythm). Ranged into shallow right field to take away a potential single while playing second base and was part of three double plays over three games. Ran a 6.76 60-yard dash and ran multiple sub-4.30 home-to-1B times. Displays foul line to foul line offensive abilities with a simple swing and a feel for the barrel.

Cole Chesnet, C, Coatesville HS, Class of 2018
5-foot-10, 175-pound backstop with advanced receiving skills. Soft glove hand, quick feet and solid arm strength. Threw out two base runners in game play and registered pop times of 1.95-2.01 on workout day. Right-handed hitter has simple approach at the plate with gap-to-gap approach. High energy player with definite leadership qualities. Committed to Penn State one day after the completion of the event.

Kyler Fedko, SS, Vincentian Academy, Class of 2018
6-foot-1, 185-pound right-handed hitter went 2-for-6 with a triple in game action. Simple, balanced approach at the plate. 7.02 runner showcased above average abilities as a middle infielder with 82 mph arm strength across the diamond. Also flashed ability to play the outfield and impressed with a strike to home plate for an outfield assist to cut down a run in game action.

Adam Grintz, RHP/OF, Downingtown West HS, Class of 2019
6-foot, 165-pound primary pitcher with long limbs appears to have significant additional growth in his frame. Long takeaway from a side-step rocker out of a high 3/4 arm slot. Quick, fluid arm action with late life to a fastball that topped at 86 mph. Also showed good bite on mid-70s curveball out of the same arm slot. Worked three one inning stints over two days facing just one batter over the minimum while striking out four and not allowing a hit.

Eric Grintz, C/IF, Downingtown West HS, Class of 2019
6-foot, 185-pound right-handed hitter impressed with well-rounded skill set. Advanced strength for a player his age with strong forearms and a short swing path. Flashed 93 mph bat exit velocity and ran 6.99 60-yard dash on evaluation day. Laced a triple to the wall in game action and squared the baseball routinely against advanced velocity all weekend. Displayed solid defensive skills behind the plate (75 mph arm strength, 1.98-2.07 pop times) and the ability to play both corner infield positions as well.

Dillon Marsh, LHP/1B, Lancaster Catholic HS, Class of 2018
6-foot-2, 210-pound two-way prospect. Worked three scoreless innings out of a high 3/4 arm slot on the weekend. Sat 84-86 while working both sides of the plate with solid tempo to his delivery. Also mixed a changeup with advanced feel at 78 mph and an improving curveball with 1/7 rotation at 73 mph. Displayed present power from his left-handed swing (99 mph bat exit) with a tripled to the center field wall. Moves well around the bag at first base and runs well enough to handle corner outfield duties as well (7.19 laser timed 60-yard dash).

Nick Parker, RHP/SS, Dallastown Area HS, Class of 2018
6-foot, 160-pound primary pitcher sat 81-82 topping at 83 mph from a high 3/4 arm slot. Showed solid pitchability with advanced feel for three pitches. Slider at 74-76 gives him a quality second offering. Worked three scoreless innings allowing two hits while striking out two. Showed athletic actions as a middle infielder with 86 mph arm strength.

Travis Perry, RHP/1B, Rocky Grove HS, Class of 2018
6-foot-7, 200-pound primary pitcher sat 83-85 while topping at 87 mph from a high 3/4 arm slot. Gets downhill well and showed solid command of four pitches during three scoreless innings of work. Advanced feel for changeup with developing curveball/slider breaking ball combo. Allowed one hit while striking out four. Athletic for his size (7.30 60-yard dash). Showed some present power from his right-handed swing (93 mph bat exit velocity).

Sevin Schoeneweis, RHP, Mars Area HS, Class of 2018
6-foot, 175-pound righty sat 83-85 while touching 87 mph from a high 3/4 arm slot. Worked three scoreless innings over two games. Fastball shows late life with arm side fade. Tight slider at 73-75 is a quality secondary offering out of the same arm slot. Also flashed a slow curveball with 11/5 rotation at 62 mph. Solid frame with balanced, repeatable delivery.

Adam Schwartz, RHP/OF, Ephrata HS, Class of 2018
Physical 6-foot-1, 195-pound two way prospect. Sat 81-84 while topping at 85 mph from a high 3/4 arm slot on the mound. Also displayed command of a mid-70s changeup and a low-70s slider with an overhead rocker delivery. Moves well defensively (7.19 60-yard dash) and flashed 88 mph arm strength from the outfield. Right-handed hitter displayed present power and went barreled the baseball consistently over the course of the weekend in game action.

Adam Smith, SS, West Chester East HS, Class of 2018
6-foot-1, 165-pound prospect has a long, lean frame with plenty of room to fill out. Impressed all weekend with the bat. Shows solid barrel whip (90 mph exit velocity) that with a leg-lift stride. Ran a 6.83 60-yard dash and glides around the infield with little wasted motion. Trusts his glove hand and showcased solid range with the ability to make plays on the move. Committed to UNC Wilmington shortly following the completion of the event.

Cullan Wadsworth, OF, Parkland HS, Class of 2018
5-foot-11, 180-pound left-handed hitter took an impressive round of batting practice on evaluation day and barreling the baseball routinely with a simple swing that produces an 89 mph bat exit velocity. Displayed solid fundamentals defensively with good ball tracking skills, 81 mph arm strength and above average foot speed (6.86 60-yard dash).

Justin Williams, 3B/OF, Cumberland Valley HS, Class of 2018
6-foot-2, 190-pound right-handed hitter took one of the top rounds of batting practice on the Team PA roster, flashing a balanced, simple approach with present power (97 mph bat exit velocity). Williams hit a long foul ball in game one that cleared the left field wall by some 30 feet and went 2-for-2 in game two action on the final day of the event. Flashed solid feet and a soft glove hand defensively with accurate 82 mph arm strength across the diamond.

Justin Wright, 3B, Hempfield Area HS, Class of 2018
6-foot-1, 180-pound right-handed hitter swung the bat as well as any player on the roster barreling baseballs routinely while registering two hits and a walk. Flashed an impressive across the board skill set on evaluation day with a 92 mph bat exit velocity while running a 7.06 60-yard dash. Third baseman made every routine play over the span of three games and tossed in a couple of backhand gems with solid carry on throws from behind the bag to put an exclamation point on his defensive performance. Announced his commitment to St. John's shortly after the event.
