PBR Mid-Atlantic Border Battle: Corner Infield Analysis

The summer rush of PBR events in Pennsylvania and West Virginia kicked into high gear in June with the PA Top Prospect Games (June 17-18), Shenandoah Valley College Prospect Showcase (June 23) and the PA Underclass Games (June 24-25) all offering college coaches a glimpse at some 175 prospects in a short period of time.
The month of July has also been a busy one with the Western PA Open ID Showcase (July 8) and the Eastern PA Open ID Showcase (July 9) offering an additional 75 prospects the ability to showcase their talents.
Prospects from six states recently assembled at Harford Community College in Bel Air, Maryland for the PBR Mid-Atlantic Border Battle to complete the July schedule of events. Over the course of the next week we will be analyzing the prospects by position that made the trek to Maryland. Today we take a look at the corner infielders in attendance.

2015 3B/1B/RHP Kevin Barron (Hatboro-Horsham)
Barron is a 6-foot-4, 195-pound uncommitted senior that showcased a well-rounded skill set with the ability to play nearly every defensive position. Barron turned in a 7.15 60-yard dash and made a running catch in left field during game play that ended with him crashing into the outfield wall for the out. The versatile defender displayed an 80 mph arm across the diamond from 3B and capable glove work at 1B as well. Barron hits from an open stance and creates significant barrel whip with power to both gaps. The right-handed hitter registered an 88 mph bat exit velocity and went 3-for-9 in game action including a drive off the left field wall. The righty also sat 79-81 from a high 3/4 arm slot on the mound with some arm side run to his fastball and changeup.
2015 1B/RHP Colin Cunningham (St. Joseph's Prep)
Cunningham is a 6-foot-2, 215-pound left-handed hitter that displayed some power potential from a slightly crouched square stance. The uncommitted senior showed good rhythm to this swing and the ability to drive the baseball consistently with a bat exit velocity of 93 mph during a solid round of batting practice. Cunningham showcased an accurate 80 mph arm across the diamond from first base and showed above average glove work around the 1B bag. The righty sat 81-84 on the mound some arm side run to his fastball from a high 3/4 arm slot while also commanding a 71 mph 11/5 breaking curveball.
2015 3B Richard Miller (Canisius HS, NY)
Miller impressed with the top bat exit velocity at the event at 93 mph. The 5-foot-11, 190-pound left-handed hitter showcased an explosive lower half from a square stance and legitimate power potential. Miller went 3-for-9 with a double in game action while showing the ability to make consistent hard contact. The uncommitted senior ran a solid 7.29 60-yard dash and displayed an 81 mph arm across the diamond while playing through the baseball. Miller created a buzz among scouts in attendance and is likely to draw considerable interest over the coming months.
2017 1B/OF Seth Thomas (Garden Spot HS)
Thomas went 5-for-9 in game play over four games. The 6-foot, 155-pound left-handed hitter showcased an 83 mph bat exit velocity and the ability to barrel the baseball consistently to all fields from a slightly open stance with a high hands load. Thomas displayed a soft glove hand and good feet around the bag at 1B defensively and showed capable actions in the outfield as well. The sophomore ran a 7.21 60-yard dash and made several loud outs during the course of game action in addition to his five hits.

2015 3B/RHP Tom Aaron (Perkiomen School)
Aaron displayed above average feet and a 75 mph arm across the diamond from 3B. The physical 6-foot, 210-pound right-handed hitter showed the ability to drive the baseball to all fields from a square stance with no stride during batting practice. Aaron flashed a bat exit velocity of 80 mph and made consistent hard contact in game action. The righty sat 74-75 from a high 3/4 arm slot during two innings of work on the mound.
2015 1B Ryan Horvath (Parkland HS)
Horvath went 4-for-10 in game action, including a 3-for-3 performance with a double off the left field wall in his final game. The 6-foot-2, 210-pound right-handed hitter showcased a 92 mph bat exit velocity and the ability to barrel the baseball routinely from a square stance during batting practice. Horvath displayed capable actions around the bag at first base with a 78 mph arm across the diamond. The uncommitted senior has an infectious attitude on the diamond and a high motor that will make him successful at the next level.
2016 3B/RHP Bret Landis (Red Lion Area HS)
Landis went 4-for-9 in game play showcasing a strong lower half and a quiet approach from the right side of the plate. The 6-foot, 200-pound junior utilizes a leg lift stride and displayed the ability to drive both gaps with a bat exit velocity of 86 mph. Landis sat 74-76 from a high 3/4 arm slot on the mound and showed a 77 mph arm across the infield from 3B.
2016 1B/LHP Garrett Martell (Elizabeth Forward HS)
Martell is a 6-foot, 160-pound left-handed hitter that displayed a square stance with no stride and a flat swing path through the hitting zone. The junior went 3-for-10 in game action and showcased a bat exit velocity of 77 mph. Martell sat 72-74 from a 3/4 arm slot on the mound while also displaying a feel for a 64 mph curveball. The lefty showed capable glove work at first base with an accurate 70 mph arm across the diamond.
2015 1B Jay Perry (St. Mark's HS, DE)
Perry is a 6-foot-2, 220-pound prospect that also has the ability to catch. Coming off a slight knee injury Perry played just first base and showed a soft glove hand, good feet around the bag and an 83 mph arm across the diamond. The uncommitted senior showcased an 88 mph bat exit velocity from a slightly crouched, square stance and very quick hands. Perry 2-for-8 in game action while showing the ability to routinely barrel the baseball.
2016 3B/RHP Josh Shultz (New Oxford HS)
Shultz is a 5-foot-10, 190-pound right-handed hitter that went 4-for-11 in game action over three days. He starts from a square stance with a toe tap stride creating barrel whip with a strong lower half. Shultz registered a bat exit velocity of 82 mph and routinely barreled the baseball during batting practice. The junior displayed the ability to play through the baseball and an improving 80 mph arm across the diamond from 3B. Shultz also worked two effective innings on the mound allowing two hits out of a high 3/4 arm slot topping at 77 mph.
2015 3B/2B J.R. Stricklen (Sissonville HS, WV)
Stricklen is a 6-foot-2, 175-pound left-handed hitter that registered an 83 mph bat exit velocity while going 2-for-9 at the plate in game action. He starts from a slightly open stance and incorporates a toe tap stride while showing the ability to barrel the baseball routinely to all fields. Stricklen displayed a 70 mph arm across the diamond and the ability to play multiple infield positions.
2015 3B/OF Tanner Stufflet (Parkland HS)
Stufflet displayed the ability to use all fields from a square stance with a toe tap stride. The 5-foot-11, 195-pound right-handed hitter showed a flat swing path through the hitting zone and a bat exit velocity of 79 mph. Stufflet went 2-for-10 in game action while showcasing an 80 mph arm across the diamond from 3B.
