Preseason All-State Showcase: Middle Infield Analysis (Part Two)

A total of 35 middle infielders showcased their abilities on Day One of the Preseason All-State Showcase. In Part Two of our evaluations we will take a look at the 2nd half of the group of 2B/SS prospects.

AJ LaBella, Springside-Chestnut Hill Academy, Class of 2016
LaBella hits from a slightly open stance with a high hands load. He showcased a short swing path and good bat speed in barreling the baseball routinely during his round of batting practice. The 5-foot-9, 160-pound right-handed hitter displayed a 79 mph bat exit velocity. LaBella turned in a solid 4.15 home-to-1B time and showed an 80 mph arm across the diamond. He has an accurate arm and fluid actions that could allow him to stay on the left side of the infield with continued physical maturity.
Brayden Lackey, Cedar Cliff HS, Class of 2015
Lackey is a 5-foot-9, 155-pound left-handed hitter that creates significant barrel whip with an explosive lower half action to his swing. Lackey exhibited some gap power potential and an 84 mph bat exit velocity. The junior turned in a 4.41 home-to-1B time and showed an accurate 69 mph arm across the diamond.
Riley McGinley, Owen J. Roberts HS, Class of 2016
McGinley flashed the ability to make throws from several arm angles and a quick release with a 76 mph arm across the diamond. The 5-foot-8, 145-pound sophomore turned in a 4.09 home-to-1B time and showed a solid line drive approach at the plate. The right-handed hitter barreled the baseball consistently with no stride and a compact swing. McGinley showed the ability to use all fields with a bat exit velocity of 83 mph.
Grayson Miller, East Pennsboro HS, Class of 2015
Miller was one of the most impressive middle infield prospects in attendance. He showed well in all facets of the game with fluidity to all his actions. He demonstrated plus bat speed and some power potential from the right side of the plate. The 5-foot-10, 180-pound junior drove the baseball consistently with a bat exit velocity of 87 mph. Miller turned in a 4.39 home-to-1B time and showed athletic actions defensively. He showed the ability to make plays on the move and an easy 80 mph arm across the diamond with much more in the tank.
Jake Mullan, Malvern Prep, Class of 2016
Mullan hits from an open stance and strides to closed. The 5-foot-10, 160-pound right-handed hitters showcased an 80 mph bat exit velocity and the ability to barrel the baseball routinely while utilizing all fields. He showed fluid actions defensively with good feet and a soft glove hand. Mullan displayed a 73 mph arm across the diamond and turned in a 4.41 home-to-1B time.
Jake Pacheco, Emmaus HS, Class of 2014
Pacheco is a 6-foot-1, 170-pound unsigned senior that showed athleticism at multiple positions. He demonstrated the ability to make all plays with good feet and a fluid transfer. His 81 mph arm should be strong enough to allow him to stay on the left side of the infield at the next level. Pacheco ran a 4.35 home-to-1B and showed a line drive approach at the plate. The right-handed hitter barreled the baseball routinely with a bat exit velocity of 77 mph.
Tommy Pellis, Greensburg Central Catholic HS, Class of 2016
Pellis is a 5-foot-11, 160-pound sophomore that turned in a 4.29 home-to-1B time. The right-handed hitter utilized a square stance and a balanced swing to barrel the baseball frequently during his round of batting practice. Pellis showcased a 92 mph bat exit velocity and the potential for some gap power. Pellis demonstrated the ability to make throws from several arm angles defensively with a bit of a long-arm throwing motion. His 83 mph arm is strong enough to allow him to stay on the left side of the infield but he will need to shorten his throwing motion.
Nick Perilli, Berks Catholic, Class of 2015
Perilli is a solidly built 5-foot-8, 170-pound right-handed hitter that hits from an open stance. He showed balance throughout his swing and the ability to use all fields with some pop in his bat. Perilli gets to extension routinely and exhibited an 84 mph bat exit velocity. The junior turned in a 4.55 home-to-1B time and showcased a 73 mph arm across the diamond defensively.
Bryan Reagle, Easton Area HS, Class of 2016
Reagle displayed a balanced swing from a slightly open stance with the ability to barrel the baseball routinely. The right-handed hitter showcased an 83 mph bat exit velocity and turned in a 4.49 home-to-1B time. Reagle displayed and accurate 74 mph arm across the diamond. At 5-11, 175-pounds Reagle appears far from finished with his physical growth. He is likely to eventually make a move to 3B if he continues to grow.
Ty Reginelli, Mars Area HS, Class of 2015
Reginelli is a 5-foot-10, 160-pound junior that continues to mature physically. The left-handed hitter showed a greatly improved bat exit velocity of 87 mph and loose hands at the plate. He has a bit of a loop to his swing path, but his above average hands compensate to allow him to barrel the baseball routinely. The junior showcased the ability to play the baseball on the move with an accurate arm on throws of 80 mph across the diamond.
Travis Renner, University HS (WV), Class of 2014
Renner is a solidly built 6-foot, 185-pound unsigned senior that registered a 4.15 home-to-1B time. He demonstrated some gap power potential and the ability to consistently drive the baseball with a bat exit velocity of 89 mph. Renner showcased a 78 mph arm across the diamond and the ability to make all plays. Although he is a primary catcher, Renner showed the athleticism to play multiple infield positions as well.
Ray Scala, Laurel HS, Class of 2015
Scala showcased a solid 4.03 home-to-1B time from the left side of the plate and athletic actions defensively. The 5-foot-10, 160-pound junior displayed the ability to play the baseball on the move with a quick release on throws of 78 mph across the diamond. Scala hits from a slightly open stance and utilizes a short swing path to routinely square the baseball. He demonstrated an 82 mph bat exit velocity and the ability to use all fields.
Andrew Stambaugh, Dallastown Area HS, Class of 2015
Stambaugh is a 6-foot-3, 135-pound junior that hit from a square stance with no stride. He is a switch-hitter with identical bat speed from the both sides of the plate. Stambaugh displayed a 75 mph bat exit velocity but better swing mechanics as a right-handed hitter. The long limbed prospect displayed a long-arm throwing motion with 76 mph arm strength across the diamond. He also registered a 4.51 home-to-1B time.
Matt Tarabek, Hempfield Area HS, Class of 2016
Tarabek showed plus feet and fluid actions defensively with a very strong arm across the diamond. The sophomore topped all infield arms at 87 mph while making plays on the move. The 6-foot, 170-pound right-handed hitter has an athletic frame and appears to have room to add to his frame yet. Tarabek showcased an 85 mph bat exit velocity while barreling the baseball routinely.
