Q&A With West Virginia Commit Shaun Corso

Shaun Corso, SS/3B, Hempfield HS, Class of 2013

          Shaun Corso

Shaun Corso, ranked No. 7 in the Class of 2013, has announced his commitment to West Virgnia University. Corso was just one of three players ranked in the top ten to remain uncommitted. Below, Corso discusses the recruitment process and how he made his college decision.

PBR:  Where have you decided to attend college and why did you make this choice?
Corso:  I chose West Virginia University. The biggest reason for my decision was for the oppurtunity to play in the Big12 conference against some of the best teams in the country, like Texas and TCU.

PBR:  What other schools were you considering?
Corso: I also gave consideration to Temple, Oregon, William and Mary, Rider, Navy and Liberty.

PBR:  Was distance from home a factor in your decision?
Corso: No, distance was not a factor in my decision. I spent over a year away from home in the midwest with a host family while attending school and playing travel baseball.

PBR:  Where did the coaches first see you?  How did your relationship develop with their coaching staff?
Corso: The coaches have been watching me for a while but they really became serious while I was at a showcase at George Mason University. Due to the NCAA restrictions we mainly spoke over the phone until my visit.

PBR:  What role do the coaches expect you to play your first year on campus?
Corso: The coaches have told me that they expect me to hit in the middle of the lineup and play a big role on the left side of the infield.

PBR:  What is your biggest strength as a player and how do you feel that will help your team?
Corso: I feel that my biggest strength is my strong work ethic and my desire to win. I give 110% every time I step out on the field and I leave everything I have on the field.

PBR:  Who do you play for in the summer and what was your most memorable experience from this past summer?
Corso: I play for the Mid Atlantic Rookies. I had many memorable experiences while traveling this summer and it would be hard to single one out.

PBR:  What is your current GPA?
Corso: 3.50

PBR:  Now that you have your commitment out of the way, what are your goals both individually and for the team going into your senior season?
Corso: A goal of mine is to be named 1st Team All-State while leading my school to a state championship.

PBR: How did Prep Baseball Report aid you in gaining exosure as a potential college baseball recruit?
Corso: PBR helped me by recognizing me as a ranked player, following my progress and publishing several stories about me.
