Top Stories of 2015: #6 - Neshannock Spoils East PA Party in PIAA Class 2A

Loyalsock Township was the two-time defending PIAA class AA state champion. Neumann-Goretti, was nearly LT's equal, succumbing to the soon-to-be back-to-back champs in 2014 by a single run, the potential tying run being tagged out between third and home to end the contest. With the two powerhouse programs sitting on the eastern side of the bracket, the seemingly inevitable semifinal rematch between the two was assumed by many to be the de facto state championship game. However, Neshannock and junior right-handed pitcher Frankie Fraschetti had other plans.

One game after Knoch ended the WPIAL's two-year state title drought, Harford CC-bound Fraschetti made it two trophies in two games for District VII, as he authored a complete game, three-hitter with eleven strikeouts in a 9-0 triumph over Neumann-Goretti (which dispatched Loyalsock Township 9-1 in this year's semifinals). The Neshannock offense did its part as well, chipping away early before blowing the game open with a six-run top of the seventh inning. The Lancers finished the season 20-5 and outscored their opponents 61-7 in eight post-season games to capture the second state crown in program history.
