Cordell ShannonA pair of Mid Penn Conference division leaders did battle on Monday in an inter-divisional match-up at Shippensburg High School with the Greyhounds emerging with a 4-1 win.  The story of the game was the dominance of Millersville bound LHP Cordell Shannon (right) who spun a complete game one-hitter with six strikeouts and one walk allowed.

The Polar Bears actually broke the ice with a run in the top of the 5th on an error and a fielder's choice but Shippensburg rallied back with four runs in the 5th and 6th innings and rode Shannon to the win.  Uncommitted senior OF Daulton Brenize (2-for-3, two doubles, two RBI) and Job Kitzmiller (2-for-2, run, RBI) led the Greyhounds eight hit attack.

Cameron EnckEphrata (7-6, 10-6 overall) traveled to Lampeter-Strasburg last evening trailing the Pioneers by just one game in the Lancaster Lebanon League Section 2 standings. Lampeter-Strasburg (9-4, 11-5 overall) plated a pair of runs in the 3rd and 6th innings and rode the left arm of senior Brandon Nickel to the win.

Nickel was impressive working seven innings with 12 strikeouts while giving up just two hits.  Maryland recruit Cameron Enck (right) fueled the Pioneers' offense with a 3-for-3 night with a run scored and an RBI.  Seniors David Greenwood (double) and Austin Pletcher (triple, run, RBI) also recorded the only extra-base hits in the LS eight hit attack.

Ephrata made things interesting in the top of the 5th inning when junior shortstop Nate Fassnacht doubled, advanced on a wild pitch, and scored on a Chase Weik sacrifice fly. Nickel took matters into his own hands from that point on, retiring the final eight batters he faced.

Anthony KnightPenn Manor (11-2, 14-2 overall) trails Hempfield 10-1 by one game in the Lancaster Lebanon League Section 1 standings.  Monday night they avoided a let down when they traveled to Manheim Township (2-11, 2-13 overall) and stayed on track for a section title with a convincing 7-1 win.

The Comets jumped on Manheim Township for five runs in the first two innings and tallied single runs in the 4th and 6th frames to win going away. On the night, Penn Manor hitters tallied 12 hits led by Elizabethtown commit Anthony Knight (4-for-4, four RBI, 2 runs). Knight (right) is hitting .519 with 23 RBI on the season.

Penn Manor will host Hempfield on Wednesday in a battle for Section 1 supremacy. The Comets will be looking to avenge a loss at Hempfield (6-4) on April 2.
