The Underclass Preview took place on January 31 at Keystone State Baseball Academy in Manheim, PA. Today we begin our analysis of the prospects in attendance by reviewing the Class of 2017. CLICK HERE to view complete results for all prospects in attendance.

Tom Jacob, RHP/OF, Upper Moreland HS
Tom Jacob6-foot, 170-pound primary pitcher sat 79-80 out of a high 3/4 arm slot. The junior has a quick arm action with a high knee stack and hip coil action to his delivery that allows the ball to jump on hitters. Jacob displayed excellent tempo to his delivery and should continue to see velocity gains as his lanky frame fills out. A 69 mph curveball with 10/4 shape and a tighter breaking slider at 72 mph gives Jacobs two breaking balls in his arsenal. His 71 mph changeup is thrown with good rhythm and was commanded down in the zone on this day.

The right-handed hitter starts from a wide, square stance and initiates his swing from a deep hand-load position. Some lower half glide leads to some length in his swing, but the junior displayed a feel for the barrel and a bat exit velocity of 85 mph. Jacob flashed 82 mph arm strength from the outfield with athletic actions and ran a 7.47 60-yard dash.

Tyler Lyons, SS/2B, Manheim Central HS
Tyler Lyons6-foot-1, 175-pound right-handed hitter starts from a square stance and initiates his swing with a toe-tap stride from a shallow load. Displayed a tendency to pull the bat head through the hitting zone with a bat exit velocity of 76 mph. Lyons ran a 7.26 60-yard dash and showed active feet in playing through the baseball defensively with accurate 71 mph arm strength across the diamond.
