Unsigned Senior Games: Team Royal Pitcher Analysis

The Unsigned Senior Games event saw more than 80 uncommitted class of 2015 players convene at Northern Kentucky University on August 16-17.  The following is a look at pitchers who took the mound for Team Royal during the event.  This is pitcher analysis only.  Those players who were also position players at the event will have their position player analysis in a subsequent article. 

Drew Glass, RHP, Pleasure Ridge Park HS, 2015
6-foot-5, 225-pound RHP, large frame, uses long arm action with some wrapping on the backside, woks through ¾ arm slot, has some funk and deception to delivery, fastball sat 82-84 topping at 85 with significant arm-side run and sink, good command of 67-69 mph curveball with 11/5 action, showed a 72 mph changeup, walked one and hit a batter while working two hitless innings with one strikeout, very interesting prospect on the mound.

Alex Burke, RHP, Eastern HS, 2015
5-foot-10, 170-pound prospect  works through a high ¾ arm slot, arm shows some quickness, fastball sat 80-83 touching 84, fastball shows good arm-side run, curveball sat 62-65 mph with 12/6 action and good depth, showed a 68 mph splitter with late tumbling action, allowed two hits, walked two, and struck out two in his two innings of work, committed to Olney Central Community College following the event.

Blaise Ostertag, OF/RHP, Conner HS, 2015
5-foot-11, 170-pound prospect  uses long arm action through a ¾ to high ¾ arm slot, arm shows some quickness, fastball sat 82-83 mph touching 84 from the windup, 80-81 from the stretch, fastball shows late arm-side life, curveball has tight spin at 70-72 mph with sharp 11/5 action, throws 71 mph changeup with good arm action, allowed two hits, walked one, and struck out two in two innings of work, interesting prospect on the mound.

Clay Kramer, RHP, Bishop Brossart HS, 2015
6-foot-2, 170-pound RHP, good pitcher’s frame with projection, uses shorter arm action through high ¾ arm slot, regular effort in delivery, fastball sat 81-84 mph, mostly straight, 69-73 mph curveball is thrown with good arm speed, tended to miss down with the curveball, allowed three hits, walked one, and struck out two in his two innings of work, has potential for more velocity with more consistent use of lower half (doesn’t finish and recoils at times), interesting mound prospect.

Andrew Patterson, OF/RHP, Whitefield Academy, 2015
6-foot-1, 175-pound prospect, athletic frame, works through mostly an over the top arm slot, tends to open front side early, arm shows some quickness, showed an increase in velocity as fastball sat 80-82 mph touching 83, showed better command of curveball from previous event at 67-72 mph with 11/5 to occasional 12/6 action, showed a 73-76 mph changeup, initially struggled some with command but settled in, allowed two hits and walked two with one strikeout in two innings of work.

Jake Rist, RHP, DuPont Manual HS, 2015
6-foot-3, 210-pound RHP with strong/athletic frame, minimal effort in delivery, can get better extension, works through high ¾ slot, fastball sat 80-82 topping at 83, showed good command of 64-69 mph curveball with short break, also flashed a 72 mph slider and 70 mph changeup thrown with good arm speed, consistently throws strikes, worked two perfect innings with one strikeout.

Addison Coffey, C/RHP, Boyle County HS, 2015
5-foot-10, 165-pound prospect uses long arm action through high ¾ slot, good pitchability, fastball sat 78-80 mph touching 81, mostly straight, good command of 64-68 mph curveball with 11/5 action, good arm action on changeup at 73 mph which showed better velocity difference off fastball from previous event, also showed a slider at 72 mph, allowed two hits with no walks and struck out one in his two innings of work.

Joshua Reynolds, RHP/SS, Campbell County HS, 2015
6-foot, 190-pound prospect uses long arm action through a high ¾ arm slot, minimal effort in delivery, pounds the strike zone and pitches to contact, fastball is mostly straight and sat 77-79 mph topping at 80, curveball was 65-69 mph with gradual 11/5 action, showed a 72 mph changeup, worked two perfect innings recording three ground ball outs with three strikeouts.

Nathan Feibes, 2B/RHP, Bryan Station HS, 2015
5-foot-6, 150-pound prospect uses shorter arm action through a ¾ slot, uptempo delivery, lower half stays online, fastball sat 72-74 mph, showed very good command of 66-68 mph curveball with mostly 11/5 action, will throw curveball on any count and throws it with good arm speed, worked a perfect inning in recording one strikeout.

Steven Standafer, 1B/LHP, Shelby County HS, 2015
6-foot-6, 205-pound prospect with large frame, regular effort in drop-and-drive type delivery, uses short arm action through high ¾ slot, fastball shows some natural cutting action at 71-74 mph, 62-63 mph curveball showed gradual 1/7 action, throws the curveball for strikes, allowed no hits, walked none, and struck out one in his one inning of work in game play.
