Unsigned Senior Spotlight - Scranton RHP Colin Maldonato

Philadelphia Region Director of Scouting
The first time we saw Scranton right-handed pitcher Colin Maldonato, he was a sophomore starting the 2013 District II championship game at the home ballpark of the Triple-A Scranton-Wilkes Barre RailRiders. As an underclassman on a big stage, Maldonato showed excellent mound presence while allowing six hits and one walk against five strikeouts in a 2-1 defeat. His mid-80s fastball was fairly straight and his one-plane slider lacked much depth.
Fast forward a little over a year and the solidly-built 6-foot-1, 200-pounder was flashing a solid three-pitch mix at the 2014 Underclass Games. Out of a high-3/4 slot, his fastball sat 84-86 with late life, while he showed good armspeed and command of his change-up and 11/5 curveball.
Maldonato is our top-ranked uncommitted senior pitcher in the state and is well worth a spring follow for those programs still looking to fill out their staff.
