By Greg Williams
Pennsylvania Director of Scouting
Following the completion of the high school season, as well as two summer showcases (one on each side of the state), it is time to roll out our first summer update to our class of 2018 rankings. This version of the list jumps from 40 to 50, with nearly 1/2 the list composed of pitchers. The next update will likely come following the completion of two more events (again, one on each side of the state), plus the Pennsylvania Travel Baseball State Championships in August.

The Virginia commit is currently ranked No. 6 in the Prep Baseball Report combined class of 2018 rankings.
Risers
Making a jump from No. 34 all the way to No. 10 is Red Lion Area RHP Tyler Burchett. The 6-foot-5, 190-pounder has seen a jump in his low 80s fastball, recently touching 90 mph in a summer workout. Also jumping 20 spots from No. 38 to No. 18 is SS/2B Michael Turconi (Blackhawk), following a standout performance at the Western PA Top Prospect Games. The 5-foot-10, 165-pound left-handed hitter ran a 6.84 60-yard dash, flashed advanced defensive actions with 89 mph arm strength across the diamond and a short stroke with the ability to drive both gaps.
Newcomers
Penn-Trafford catcher Josh Spiegel enters the rankings for the first time at No. 9 following his performance at the Western PA Top Prospect Games. Spiegel showed an impressive skill set with a top pop time of 1.88, above average foot speed (6.71 60-yard dash) and present power as a right-handed hitter.
Other additions: 2018 RHP Wyatt Beddow had a breakout sophomore campaign on the mound showcasing a fastball that tops at 89 mph along with a hard-breaking 75 mph curveball and above-average changeup. The Penn State commit enters the rankings at No. 12...6-foot-7, RHP/1B Travis Perry (Rocky Grove) topped at 86 mph with a very solid changeup at the Western PA Top Prospect Games. The two-way prospect did not hit, but has previously shown a bat exit velocity of 92 mph. Perry makes his initial entry in the rankings at No. 19...Canon-McMillan RHP Zach Rohaley also impressed at the Western PA Top Games sitting 83-85 with a heavy fastball and quality secondary offerings. The 6-foot-1, 195-pounder enters the rankings at No. 30.
