Western PA Top Prospect Games Preview: Grey Team

The summer rush of PBR events in Pennsylvania began this week with the 2016 Western PA Top Prospect Games on June 14 and 15. Ninety prospects from Pennsylvania and West Virginia gathered for two days of nine inning games and showcase activities on the campus of Seton Hill University. Today we continue our analysis of the prospects in attendance by taking a look at the prospects that participated as a member of the Grey Team.

TOP PROSPECT

Hudson NovakHudson Novak, OF/RHP, Laurel Highlands HS, Class of 2017

6-foot-3, 195-pound stood out with a well-rounded skill set. Primary outfielder showcased athletic actions and accurate 87 mph arm strength from the outfield. Displayed solid routes to the baseball and ran a 7.15 60-yard dash. Right-handed hitter starts from a slightly open stance with a high hands load. Generates 87 mph bat exit velocity with fluid swing mechanics and flashed gap-to-gap pop in his bat. Went 4-for-6 in game action over the course of two games.

Two-way prospect sat 81-83 from a high 3/4 arm slot during three innings of work allowing just one run. Also showed solid command of a 71 mph curveball with two-plane 11/5 rotation and a 66 mph changeup thrown at fastball arm speed. Registered four strikeouts while allowing just two hits.

Burke Camper, C/OF, Hampton Area HS, Class of 2019

5-foot-10, 170-pound right-handed hitter starts from a slightly open stance and displayed a short stroke with a solid feel for the barrel (76 mph bat exit velocity). Flashed advance receiving and blocking skills and the potential to be an above average catch and throw receiver. 2.16-2.23 pop times will improve in time and with improvements on 67 mph arm strength out of the crouch. Ran a 7.33 60-yard dash and went 3-for-7 with a triple in game action over two days.

Corey Cavalier, 2B/SS, Homer-Center HS, Class of 2018

6-foot-1, 165-pound right-handed hitter starts from a square stance and initiates his swing with a leg-lift stride. Registered an 82 mph bat exit velocity and went 2-for-7 in game action over two days while barreling the baseball in several other at bats. Ran a 7.45 60-yard dash and flashed capable defensive actions with accurate 77 mph arm strength across the diamond.

Michael Crawford, LHP, West Allegheny HS, Class of 2017

6-foot-1, 170-pound lefty shined in three innings of work striking out four while allowing just three hits. Sat 82-84 from a high 3/4 arm slot with sound, repeatable mechanics. Fastball showed arm side run. 73 mph two-plane curveball with 1/7 rotation is a college ready second pitch, but changeup (72-75) is still in development. Athletic, projectable frame and easy, fluid delivery should lead to additional velocity moving forward.

Adam Cruttenden, 3B/OF, Cardinal Wuerl North Catholic HS, Class of 2018

5-foot-10, 175-pound left-handed hitter starts from a slightly open stance with a low-hands load. Utilizes a toe tap stride to generate a solid lower half turn with a bat exit velocity of 77 mph while going 2-for-6 at the plate in game action. Improved foot speed (7.82) should come with strength gains and physical maturity. Improved arm strength (69 mph) will be necessary to remain at 3B at the next level.

Antonio Ferraro, OF, Meadville Area HS, Class of 2017

5-foot-11, 175-pound right-handed hitter starts from a slightly open stance and utilizes a heel-raise stride to initiate his swing. Registered an 80 mph bat exit velocity and barreled the baseball repeatedly during game action. Showcased athletic actions defensively with accurate 80 mph arm strength from the outfield. Ran a 7.14 60-yard dash and displayed the ability to take solid routes to the baseball in game action.

Lucas Folmar, 3B/SS, Harbor Creek HS, Class of 2018

6-foot, 160-pound left-handed hitter starts from a square stance and utilizes a leg lift stride to initiate his swing. Flashed loose hands and a feel for the barrel with a bat exit velocity of 83 mph in a very solid round of batting practice. Continued to impress with the bat by going 5-for-7 with a double and a triple in game action. Showcased capable defensive actions with accurate 80 mph arm strength across the diamond.

Kyle Goodwin, SS/RHP, Parkersburg HS (WV), Class of 2017

5-foot-10, 160-pound left-handed hitter showcased solid two-way abilities with a bat exit velocity of 86 mph. Starts from a square stance and utilizes a heel raise stride to initiate his swing. Displayed a solid feel for the barrel in batting practice and went 3-for-8 with two doubles at the plate in game action. Showcased capable defensive actions best suited for 2B at the next level with 78 mph arm strength across the diamond. 

Righty sat 79-80 from an over-the-top arm slot with an overhead rocker delivery on the mound. Also flashed a 64 mph curveball with 10/4 rotation as his primary secondary pitch. Worked three innings in game action allowing one run while striking out three. 

Michael Morrone, RHP/OF, Seneca Valley HS, Class of 2019

5-foot-10, 155-pound primary pitcher sat 77-78 from a high 3/4 arm slot. Also commanded a 65 mph curveball with 11/5 rotation. Right-handed hitter starts from a square stance and utilizes a heel-raise stride to initiate his swing. Displayed the ability to use all fields during batting practice with a bat exit velocity of 76 mph. Ran a 7.26 60-yard dash and flashed accurate 78 mph arm strength from the outfield.

Zach Mosbacher, 1B/RHP, Harbor Creek HS, Class of 2018

5-foot-10, 200-pound right-handed hitter starts from an open stance and initiates his swing with a leg-lift stride. Registered an 83 mph bat exit velocity and went 3-for-7 in game action over two days. Ran a 7.58 60-yard dash and displayed capable defensive actions with 78 mph arm strength. 

Right-hander sat 80-81 with some arm-side run to his fastball during three innings of work on the mound. Also commanded a 67 mph curveball with 11/5 rotation and a 71 mph split-change. Struck out three while allowing two runs. 

Tyler Passmore, RHP/SS, Harbor Creek HS, Class of 2017

6-foot, 180-pound primary pitcher was impressive sitting 80-84 from a high 3/4 arm slot. Displayed a loose, quick arm and gets over front leg well. Flashed an above average, two-plane curveball at 73 mph with 11/5 rotation as his primary secondary pitch. Worked three scoreless innings striking out seven batters, including seven of the final eight, while allowing just an infield single.

Right-handed batter starts from a square stance and utilizes a lift-and-replace stride to initiate his swing. Demonstrated a feel for the barrel in batting practice with a bat exit velocity of 82 mph. Ran a 7.32 60-yard dash and displayed capable defensive actions with 77 mph arm strength across the diamond. 

Matt Privette, OF, Pittsburgh Central Catholic HS, Class of 2017

5-foot-11, 170-pounder ran an event best 6.63 60-yard dash and showcased athletic actions defensively with accurate 77 mph arm strength from the outfield. Right-handed hitter starts from a square stance and utilizes a line drive approach at the plate with limited lower half action. Displayed quick hands with an 85 mph bat exit velocity while going 2-for-4 at the plate in game action on day one of the event. 

Kyle Shaffer, 1B/OF, Pittsburgh Central Catholic HS, Class of 2017

6-foot, 175-pound right-handed hitter showcased solid swing mechanics from a square stance with a leg-lift stride. Registered a 79 mph bat exit velocity and went 3-for-3 with a double at the plate in day two action. Flashed capable defensive actions at first base and in the outfield with accurate 80 mph arm strength. Displayed solid routes to the baseball in the outfield and ran a 7.27 60-yard dash.
