Western PA Top Prospect Showcase Review



The first showcase event in the history of PBR Pennsylvania took place today at Pullman Park in Butler, PA. There were many talented players at today's showcase along with numerous college scouts from Pennsylvania and Ohio. This summer's showcase events will continue tomorrow at In The Net Sports Complex in Palmyra, PA.

The top performance on the mound at today's showcase was turned in by Jamie Switalski, (Pine Richland), Class of 2014, who topped out at 84mph during his bullpen session while showcasing solid control of his off speed pitches.  Other top performers on the mound included Matt Gordon, (Grove City), Class of 2014, who topped out at 83 mph while demonstrating solid control and movement of three different pitches.  Finally, Justin Beimel, (St. Marys), Class of 2013 impressed with his split finger fastball and his sinking change up.

Several players were impressive offensively but none more so than Tyler Walters, (Saegertown), Class of 2014 who continually drove baseballs to all fields and showed the potential to be a power hitter at the next level.  Other players who impressed with the bat included Class of 2014 players Jamie Switalski (Pine Richland), Collin Fantaskey (Warren), Jake Kleindl (Shady Side Academy),  Cody Bain (Blackhawk), Wes Lang (Oil City), and Phil Madonna (Vincentian Academy).  Additionally, Luke Carter (Saegertown) and Brian Bohman (McDowell), both from the Class of 2013, displayed the ability to square the ball up consistently with above average pop.

Defensive stars of the day included Phil Madonna (Vicentian Academy) Class of 2014, who displayed a 2.0 pop time and solid all around catching skills, outfielder Kyle Wise (Saegertown) Class of 2014, who was clocked at 81mph from his position, and Ted Williams (Meadville), Class of 2014, who displayed soft hands and a strong throwing arm as a middle infielder.

Two Class of 2016 players showed great promise for the coming years. Joe Gunn, (New Castle), showed advanced offensive skills for a player yet to play high school baseball. Frankie Fraschetti, (Neshannock), was impressive in all facets of the game topping out at 79 on the mound, and sprayed line drives to all fields during his round of batting practice.

The top 60 yard dash on the day was turned in by Chuckie Scales, (Shady Side), who crossed the line with a time of 6.87 seconds.
