The off-season provided a lot of insight into players in the 2019 class as they had a chance to continue to develop physically, as well as technically, in preparation for the 2018 high school baseball season. Our team of scouts, most of whom were doing player evaluations before joining PBR California, have scoured the state for the top players in each class and had multiple discussions to review initial lists and make any adjustments based on what was seen.

The overall list was presented, torn down, picked apart, recreated, torn down, and picked apart again before our scouts concluded on what we present here. In the end, our scouts were able to agree on our initial 2019 Top 100 Player Rankings for the state of California which we present below.

The overall top spot in the 2019 class goes to to talented LHP Cooper Benson (San Luis Obispo HS) with explosive hitter Josh Hahn (Huntington Beach HS) narrowly missing the top spot but checking in at No. 2. Rounding out the top five are RHP Wesley Scott (Woodcrest Christian HS), LHP/1B Spencer Jones (La Costa Canyon HS), and OF Michael Dixon (Berkeley HS).

Athletic 1B/LHP Xavier Carter (Capital Christian HS), a UCLA commit, flashes a quality hit tool that has scouts intrigued. Carter shows advanced bat-to-ball skills to go with easy power to all fields with backspin projecting future power growth. Carter also possesses excellent speed and awareness on the basepaths along with range and mobility at first base.

Athletic RHP Sam Hliboki (Harvard Westlake HS), a Vanderbilt commit, has made steady improvements to his overall arsenal now showing better command and feel for all three pitches he uses. He's been up to 91 in the past, and will likely continue to see velocity gains as he matures physically.
