Dillon Lifrieri Earns Future Games MVP

Modestly ranked in New England’s 2018 list, Dillon Lifrieri wasn’t the most well-known prospect heading into the sixth-annual Prep Baseball Future Games. But the 6-foot-1, 180-pound outfielder from Wilton HS in Connecticut certainly made his presence known in a big way throughout the course of three days at Grand Park in Westfield, IN.

Lifrieri’s ascension first began during Thursday’s positional workouts, when the athletic right-handed hitter put up eye-popping statistical numbers. After running a 6.84 laser-timed 60, Lifrieri was clocked at 91 mph from the outfield, and recorded a 100 mph exit velocity. Although he showed bat speed and strength during his round of batting practice, the results were mixed.

But Lifrieri showed that his impressive raw showcase numbers can translate in game action, too, over the course of three games. Lifrieri impacted the game in all facets - especially with his bat - as he helped Team Connecticut go 3-0 at the loaded event.

Offensively, Lifrieri blasted an event-best two home runs, both lasers to left field. With his pull-side power well-established, he showed off his athleticism by legging out a single in the six-hole by getting down the line in 4.19 seconds. He also got robbed of a hit on a smash to the second baseman, walked, stole two bases and was hit by a pitch, in the groin region, which he amazingly caught between his legs.He finished with four RBI. Even during Connecticut’s pregame BP Lifrieri created buzz by launching several tape-measure blasts.

Defensively, he showed off his arm strength when he gunned down a runner from right field at the plate to put an end to New York/New Jersey’s rally in the fifth inning.   

Lifrieri’s all-around performance, from start to finish, earned him Most Valuable Player honors of the talent-rich event that included players from 27 different states.
