Midwest Future Games: As special as the pitching was, it was the bat of Colby Fitch (Hickman HS, MO) that commanded center stage. The left-handed hitting Fitch hit three home runs in three games against top-level pitching. The 5-foot-11, 200-pound C/INF finished 4-for-6 with 6 RBI, three walks and three no-doubt shots.
Top Prospect Invite: Continung to impress, Fitch is a 5-foot-10, 185-pound left-handed hitting catcher who proved to be one of the event's best overall hitters. He has a quick and explosive swing to the baseball, and gets excellent extension through contact. Fitch showed loose, athletic hands and an overall advanced hitting approach. Defensively, Fitch continued to impress. He threw a top pop time of 1.93 with a solid arm (74 from crouch) and quick feet behind the plate. Fitch received well during bullpens, displaying soft hands, a firm wrist, and blocked well. Look for Fitch to be one of the Top 10 prospects in the Class of 2014
Kansas City Open ID: This multi-talented prospect has impressive versatility on the field, showing equally well behind the plate and as an outfielder. The 5-foot-10 Fitch displayed an accurate arm wherever he plays. As a catcher, he showed quick feet and recorded an impressive pop time of 1.91, with above average receiving and blocking skills. In the field, Fitch showed athletic movements to the ball and an accurate arm (81 mph) from the outfield. Offensively, the left handed hitting Fitch displayed good rhythm and balance while showing some bat speed. Fitch has the baseball ability and swagger that will continue to get him noticed as possibly one of the top prospects in the Class of 2014.
