Illinois Draft Preview

The 2015 Major League Draft takes place June 8-10. In advance of the draft, Prep Baseball Report is posting a summary of each state in the coverage area with scouting reports on the top high school draft prospects.

By Illinois’ standards, the 2015 draft class—at least on the high school side—is fairly lackluster. LHP Bryan Hudson (Alton HS, IL) has caught a lot of attention this spring and may be off the board in the top three rounds. For the rest, it comes down to signability and development. A couple prospects may be signable and ready to start their pro careers, but most are likely headed to college to further develop their game before being eligible again.

Top Prospects

1. Charlie Donovan, SS, Westmont HS, IL
Donovan stands at 5-foot-11, 180 pounds, but don’t let his size fool you. His lower half has gotten stronger and he’s more physical than he gets credit for. He has quick-twitch actions and the tools to stay in the middle of the field.
