New Jersey Draft Preview
June 4, 2015
By Sean McGrath
New Jersey Scouting Director
The 2015 Major League Draft takes place June 8-10. In advance of the draft, Prep Baseball Report is posting a summary of each state in the coverage area with scouting reports on the top high school draft prospects.
Six of the last eight drafts have seen New Jersey produce a high school pick in the top two rounds. This isn’t one of those years, but there are a few names worth keeping an eye on. RHP Tyler Phillips (Bishop Eustace HS, NJ) is considered signable and may get popped in the top 10 rounds. RHP John Murphy (Gloucester Catholic HS, NJ) and LHP Andrew Miller (Sterling HS, NJ) are likely to honor their commitments to Maryland where they could develop into early-round prospects while helping the Terrapins stay competitive on a national level.
Top Prospects
1. John Murphy, RHP, Gloucester Catholic HS, NJ
Murphy has been a staple of Gloucester Catholic's success since his freshman season. The Maryland recruit has a prototypical power pitcher's frame and will only get stronger. He uses an aggressive, up-tempo approach, which adds to his mound presence.
