2019 TOURNAMENT 12 PREVIEW: NAVY ROSTER

With Tournament 12 approaching September 17 until the 21st, we take a look at each roster, with players from all across the country with short clips on who they are what they could become this upcoming week. 

PBR will be on location for all 5 days, bringing you non-stop coverage of the Tournament along with player updates, statistics, video and more.

This year players are spread out through 6 teams, no longer separated by their territories and no longer will they begin with the 1-1 count. We look forward to seeing the talent all week but for now, get to meet your Navy roster representatives for T12.

Griffin Almond RHP / 1B / Georgian Bay Community, ON / 2021 Rankings  StateRank: 12 / POS: 5 Report: Almond is a tall and lean 6-foot-6, 200-pound right-hander with room to grow. Almond throws from a ¾ arm slot and his delivery is very consistent and repeatable. Fastball sits around 84-87 mph and occasionally features some arm side run.  Curveball has 11/5 shape sitting around 68-70. Changeup will sit around 73-76 and is developing into another good secondary pitch. With added strength and development, the currently uncommitted 2021 grad should be an interesting arm to follow.

Mitch Bratt LHP / OF / Newmarket, ON / 2021 Rankings  StateRank: 1 / POS: 1 OverallRank: 94 / POS: 15 Report: Bratt is the number one ranked prospect in the country, and should be sure to draw a strong presence for his Day 1 start. The 6-foot-1 left-hander has been a can’t miss prospect this summer as his velocity has ticked up with the fastball working 86-88 and touching 90 mph on a few occasions. The curveball has bite and near 12/6 shape while the changeup has improved.

Jake Bucovetsky OF / RHP / Northern Secoundary school, ON / 2020 Rankings  StateRank: 27 / POS: 5 Report: Bucovetsky took off last year and really stood out in CPBL action as the left-handed hitting outfielder has one of the nicer swings in the 2020 Ontario class. Profiles as a corner guy moving forward, Bucovetsky provided lots of hard contact and gap-to-gap power with a handful of home runs. He can also jump on the mound and be very productive, working the 82-85 range with run and ability to induce weak contact and get outs.

Caleb Clark LHP / 1B / Orillia Secondary School, ON / 2021 Rankings  StateRank: 17 / POS: 3 Report: Left-handed arm that is an intriguing follow as Clark repeats his delivery, shows feel for three pitches and the actions work with room to increase velocity and strength. The lefty features arm side run and when he’s on, it’s a very short at-bat for the hitters.

Tyler Coakley RHP / OF / Dr. Frank J Hayden, ON / 2021 Rankings  StateRank: 29 / POS: 13 Report: 2021 grad at 6-foot-3, 195-pounds, a right-hander with a loose, easy arm swing that was 83-84, up to 86 mph this last month is someone to pay attention to next week at the Rogers Centre. The frame jumps out immediately, then on the hill he’s controlled, arm is easy and clean in the back, and works from ¾ slot with run on his fastball. Mixes in a slurve in the low 70’s and usually has fairly decent control, Coakley is an arm that has upside with his present stuff, actions and room for strength, and the ability to attack the strike zone. All check marks in my boxes.

Mason Dobie SS / 2B / Georgian Bay Community, ON / 2021 Rankings  StateRank: 11 / POS: 3 Report: Dobie is a 6-foot-2, 175-pounds, slim frame, equally proportioned, and projects to add some strength. Dobie a 2021 grad and currently uncommitted, has a very easy, quiet, smooth swing and has some bat speed. Dobie has potential to be a power hitter as he becomes stronger. Moves well at shortstop, has clean actions, he stays down and gathers himself well. Dobie is also an average runner and will be intriguing follow as he continues to develop.

Aaron Duffy RHP / SS / Assumption, ON / 2021 Rankings  StateRank: 22 / POS: 8 Report: Duffy, a loose and athletic right-hander with projectable frame that is going to add strength. Fastball works in the 80-84 range while he can spin the breaking ball with 12/6 shape. The strength should help add velo to both the heater and curveball while there is pitchability and lots of room to dream on Duffy with the athleticism, actions and feel.

Tyson Gomm C / 2B / Port Credit, ON / 2021 Rankings  StateRank: 10 / POS: 1 Report: Ranked the number one backstop in the 2021 class, Gomm is a 5-foot-11,170-pounds and his pop time sits around 2.03-2.12 with 75 mph arm strength behind the plate and sound all-around defensive actions. At the plate, there’s bat speed and aggression towards the baseball, two-hand finish keeps him controlled and allows his line-drive approach with pull-side direction to work well. Gomm is a must follow going forward as he continues to develop his overall game.

Alexis Gravel OF / LHP / Academie Baseball Canada, QC / 2021 Report: Gravel, product of the french-canadian powerhouse ABC Academie is a left-handed hitting outfielder with short swing to contact. More juice to his pull side and the body will add strength over time. He runs well and the arm works from the outfield with clean actions, has also jumped on the mound in the past but he has taken the next step this summer at the plate and will be an intriguing player to follow.

Dominic Hambley RHP / 3B / NA, BC / 2021 Rankings  StateRank: 5 / POS: 4 Report: Big physical right-hander from the 2021 class, we saw Hambley at the Canada cup where he was up to 87 mph and flashed a good, tight, downward curveball. Ball straightened out a bit up in the zone but there is whip and quickness in the arm and Hambley has a chance to open eyes.

Elijha Hammill SS / 2B / Holy Trinity, ON / 2021 Rankings  StateRank: 4 / POS: 1 OverallRank: 254 / POS: 57 Report: Hammill, a switch hitter who performs from both sides of the plate while letting his 6.56 speed play in game and on the bases. Has improved defensively with the hands as their is arm strength and feel to make plays. Bat is the carrying tool and should be a big time performer with offensive production and the ability to play multiple defensive positions.

Cole Iantomasi 3B / 1B / All Saints, ON / 2021 Rankings  StateRank: 14 / POS: 1 Report: Right-handed hitting corner infielder who really starting to get comfortable near the end of the summer, bat is the carrying tool with raw power to the pull side and strength through the zone. Performed well with the Futures Team last year, will look to see Iantomasi take that next step on the big stage in Toronto.

Quinton McRae C / Eastdale, ON / 2021 Rankings  StateRank: 25 / POS: 3 Report: Strong, left-handed hitting catcher listed at 6-foot-1, 210-pounds with strong forearms and upper half strength, well proportioned and the frame profiles for the position. At the plate, McRae is aggressive and looks to go to his pull side where the majority of his power comes from. He’s begun to show more of a hit tool as of late but the power is very intriguing and his arm behind the dish has improved. Passes the eye test and could jump some balls during Wednesday’s workout and take that into game action.

Nelson Mercado RHP / 3B / St. Augustine, ON / 2021 Rankings  StateRank: 9 / POS: 4 Report: A powerful 6-foot-2, 225-pound right-hander, Mercado pounds the zone with an 87-89 mph fastball. His secondary offerings still need refining, but he showed some feel for both his changeup and curveball. Mercado is one of the hardest throwers in his class and is the 4th ranked overall righty.

Luis Pimentel Guerrero OF / SS / Corpus Christi, ON / 2022 Rankings  StateRank: 2 / POS: 1 Report: Pimentel, one of youngest outfielder’s on the roster is a switch hitter with twitch and speed being a big part of his game. He can throw with velocity, touching 90 from the outfield earlier in the year. Lots of room to grow and mature, Pimentel will hit with more of a contact, line drive oriented approach and really stepped up at the Future Games, taking his game to the next level. Currently the #2 prospect in Ontario’s 2022 class.

Emilien Pitre SS / Academie Baseball Canada, QC / 2020 Report: Speedy middle infielder with twitchy actions at the plate from the left side. Has been a standout for ABC on their summer tour, always a threat with his speed as he’s been clocked down the line at 4.15. Defensively, actions and arm to stick at short, confident with his glove and plays under control, never being rushed while showing range to both sides and being able to come get the ball. Committed to Kentucky days after the Future Games in Georgia.

Virot Siharath RHP / SS / Bill Crothers, ON / 2021 Rankings  StateRank: 18 / POS: 7 Report: Loose right-handed arm from Newmarket, ON. Virot moves well on the mound and features whippy arm from ¾ slot that has been up to 87 mph and compliments that with a sharp 11/5 shaped curveball with late, downer action. Low mileage and lots of upside here with Siharath.

Riley Silva OF / St. Benedict, ON / 2020 Rankings  StateRank: 34 / POS: 6 Report: Silva is a left-handed hitting outfielder and one of the fastest players at the tournament this year. Recently ran a 6.56 and he throws it well from the outfield while profiling more as a contact, line drive type hitter who will use the whole field and put pressure on the defence witth his wheels.

Turner Spoljaric RHP / National High School, ON / 2021 Rankings  StateRank: 5 / POS: 1 Report: Spoljaric is a very projectable right-hander with long arms and wide shoulders, listed at 6-foot-1, 180-pounds with room to carry much more size and strength. The fastball has been up to 88 mph this summer while we’ve seen Spoljaric spin it with 11/5 shape in the 75-77 range. The arm is loose and free and expect the velo to continue to climb as Spoljaric matures and adds strength.

Matthew Wilkinson SS / RHP / Park, MN / 2020 Rankings  StateRank: 100 / POS: 16 Report: Big left-hander who plays in Alberta with the Dawgs, it’s a three pitch mix and nothing is straight. Will pound the zone and make quick work of hitters and is off to Central Arizona JC next fall. The arm works as its a mid 80’s heater that will creep into the upper 80’s while he can work both off-speed pitches when he wants to, fun to watch Wilkinson work his stuff over an outing.Analysis Here
