Yawn Powers Northside Christian to 8-3 Victory

In a key late season matchup between the Northside Christian Mustangs and Clearwater Central Catholic Marauders, 2018 SS Corey Yawn (Northside Christian, FL) stepped up in a big way by delivering two home runs late in the game to propel the Mustangs to an 8-3 victory. The Florida State recruit was a catalyst at the plate all night, as he went 4-for-4 with five RBIs and three runs scored.
The Mustangs got on the board early, taking a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the first on a sacrifice fly. The Marauders quickly answered though with a two run second inning as 2019 IF Jack Burke (Clearwater Central Catholic, FL) drove in the first run on an RBI single to right field, followed by an error in the field to take a 2-1 lead.
In the bottom of the third, the Mustangs retook the lead as 2018 1B Jonathan Alonso (Northside Christian, FL) drove a ball deep into the outfield for a sacrifice fly followed by an error in the field to plate two and go ahead 3-2. The Marauders then tied things back up in the top of the fourth by taking advantage of an error in the field, pushing it to 3-3.
The rest of the night belonged to Corey Yawn though, which seemed fitting on Senior Night as the Florida State recruit crushed two no-doubter home runs in his final two at bats. The first one in the bottom of the fifth gave them a 5-3 lead as he barreled it up for a two-run home run over the left-center field wall that got out in a hurry.
Yawn put an exclamation point on the night in the bottom of the sixth when he followed up his two-run home run with a three-run home run that also went over the left-center field wall and gave the Mustangs a commanding 8-3 lead.
The Marauders went down in order in the top of the seventh and the Mustangs moved to 16-6 on the year. With the loss, the Marauders fell to 14-9.
