DFW Top Prospects: Standouts

Toby Bicknell
Texas Scouting Director

PLANO, TX- This years DFW Top Prospects event may have been one of our best ever. This event was loaded with the top prospects in the 2020 class from the DFW and surrounding areas. Here is in depth look at some of the players that stood out and a few that are a must see for college coaches.

KADEN CALKINS

RHP / SOUTHLAKE CARROLL SENIOR, TX / 2020

The last arm to throw being one of the best at the event RHP Kaden Calkins and you have very strong bookends that made the DFW Top Prospect event one our best ever. At 6-foot-5, 190-pounds, there is still plenty of room for Calkins to add strength to a long, lean, projectable pitcher’s frame. Working from slightly above a ¾ slot the right-hander has a long, loose arm swing with a smooth, low-effort delivery. His fastball topped out at 89, sitting mostly 86-88, and he throws a power changuep at 82-83 with heavy action at the bottom of the zone. Mixes in a slurve at 72-75 with short, late break. This guy has a chance to be one of the biggest sleeper picks in the 2020 class and is a must see for college coaches.

HOMER BUSH

OF / CARROLL SENIOR, TX / 2020

Has serious upside and athleticism at 6-2/185 pounds. The right handed hitter is starting to come into his own, and there is already leverage and juice in the bat to go with high end game speed.

JOSH HERNANDEZ

OF / RHP / REEDY, TX / 2020

Has a long arm swing and pitched at 87-90 during his bullpen, he also spun a 76-77 mph slider.

THOMAS WREHE

C / RHP / SOUTHLAKE CARROLL, TX / 2020

Showed quality arm strength behind the plate and on the mound. He pitched at 84-88, touching 8& multiple times. Quality feel for a downer CB at 76, a slutter at 82 mph, and a CH at 81-82 mph. Serious quickness on pop times with 1.91, 1.94, 1.93, 1.93. Although he is a switch hitter, the swing from the right side plays more fluid with natural strength.
