Dallas Preseason ID - Underclass Quick Hits

Brandon Gowins
Assistant Scouting Director

Dallas, TX - As we get ready to start the High School Season, we had our final Preseason ID of the winter this past weekend at John Paul II in Plano.  It was a loaded event with quality players, so we will break down our Quick Hits into two parts. In part two, we take a look at the underclassmen.  There was a lot of talent in the ‘24 and ‘25 classes. Here are just a few that caught our attention.

+ FULL STAT SHEET

+ UPPERCLASS QUICK HITS

Sawyer Farr SS / 2B / Boswell, TX / 2024

One of the top overall performers on Sunday was Farr. The Sophomore showed off all of his tools.  He ran a 6.99 60 to start off the day, and then threw 89 across the diamond during the infield drills.  The QB1 then stepped to the plate and showed off power potential from both sides. For his size and age, the barrel control was impressive. Farr has one of the more intriguing skill sets in the state, and it will be interesting to see where his body goes as he matures

Brayden Bergman OF / RHP / Plano East, TX / 2024

Bergman had a well rounded day as well.  He ran a 7.07 60 and was 85 from the Outfield.  Then Bergman stepped up to the plate and put on a show.  There is very little wasted movement in his swing.  Has a quiet set up, but he gets off a powerful swing with plenty of intent behind it.  He hit multiple balls out of the yard and delivered consistent 95+ exit velo’s.  He also had a max bat speed of 80 on Blast, which is elite for anyone’s age.

Major Brignon SS / 2B / Celina, TX / 2024

Watching the maturation of Brignon has been fun the last couple of years.  He has added some notable physicality to his game, and it showed on Sunday.  He had a max exit velocity of 96.3 and banged multiple balls of the wall.  He had the 2nd best bat speed there with a max of 79.7.  Defensively, he still shows the soft hands in the infield and more than enough arm strength for the left side of the infield.  He had a max infield velo of 84.

Nick Wesloski OF / SS / McKinney Boyd, TX / 2025

Wesloski had a solid day all the way around.  He is just a baseball player, and you can put him pretty much anywhere. Where he really caught our eye was on the mound.  He had a fastball that peaked at 84, with minimal effort.  He showed a + change up off his fastball, that he threw with good intent and it had nice sinking and fading action.  As the high waisted Wesloski continues to fill out, I expect some big velo gains.

Brady Coe SS / RHP / Allen, TX / 2024

Coe had a good day overall, doing a little bit of everything. In the infield, he showed elite glove skills and made every play look easy.  He also flashed some arm strength, topping out at 88 across the diamond.  At the plate, he had a line drive approach that was geared to staying in the big part of the field.  To end the day, Coe hopped on the mound and showed a low effort low 80’s fastball with a changeup and curveball to go with it.

Jack Hickerson RHP / 1B / Denton Guyer, TX / 2024

Maybe the highest upside arm at the event was Hickerson.  The 6’3 righty has a super quick arm and his velo sat in the mid 80’s, but has been up to 90 earlier this year.  He showed a 2 seamer that had good arm side run, and a tight late breaking slider that has a chance to be a swing and miss pitch. There is plenty of projection left in his frame, and I expect to see some big Velo jumps from him this year.

Garrett Hutchins 1B / LHP / Lovejoy, TX / 2025

The 6’4 225 freshman had a great round of BP.  For someone his size and age, he showed great barrel control.  He has a very direct path to the ball and was comfortable going the other way with authority.  He produced some mid 90’s exit velo’s, and bat speed that maxed out at 77.  As he continues to grow into his body, he should become an offensive force.

Sawyer Strosnider OF / LHP / Brock, TX / 2024

The 6’2 lefty definitely looks the part standing in the batters box. Has a slightly open stance to start and has intent behind every swing.  He maxed out at 75.4 on his bat speed and shows some power potential when he turns on the ball.  He didn’t pitch in this setting, but he has been up to 84 in the past and is a true two way talent.

John Cooper Moore 3B / RHP / Tyler Legacy , TX / 2024

Moore posted a 7.16 60 to start his day.  He showed good actions in the infield, and profiles best at 3rd base.  At the plate, he showed good bat speed topping out at 74.2 that produced low 90’s exit velocities. He has a frame that has plenty of filling out to do and could develop into a power hitting corner infielder

Jackson Miles C / RHP / Plano, TX / 2025

One of the better catch and throw performances on the day belonged to Miles.  The freshman consistently was in the 2.03 range and delivered an accurate throw every time. He also impressed while catching bullpens showing good receiving skills. At the plate, he showed above avg. bat speed, and as he matures and gets his lower half involved more he could develop some power.

Todd Rochelle RHP / Mansfield Legacy, TX / 2024

Rochelle had one of the better bullpens on the day.  Has an old school feel to his mechanics, with a high leg kick  that gets his knee up near his chin.  But he repeated it well, and got his Fastball up to 87.  He threw a slider off his fastball that showed some depth and has a chance to be a weapon to righties.  Just another talented arm coming out of Mansfield Legacy.

Jaxon Miller OF / Heritage Frisco, TX / 2024

Miller started his day running one of the better 60 times at the event, posting a 6.73. He followed that up with an impressive round of bp. The RHH outfielder produced a max exit velocity of 96.3 and had bat speed that maxed out at 75.2. The tall and slender righty has a  lot of filling out to do still and should continue to grow into some power.

Brody Mattox 3B / 1B / Prosper, TX / 2025

Mattox, a Jr. Futures Game Participant, had a solid, well rounded day.  His infield work looked good and he made every play.  His infield velocity was 84. He profiles best as a 3rd baseman.  At the plate, he doesn’t get cheated and is always looking to do damage. Has a slight uppercut in his swing, and as he gets stronger, could develop some serious power.

Jody Murillo OF / 1B / Denton Guyer, TX / 2025

The LHH freshman did a lot of good things on Sunday. The Jr. Futures Game participant looked noticeably different physically.  In the batters box, he works slightly uphill and is looking to lift the ball. As the body matures and he gains more strength he should have at least some avg power. On the mound, Jody has a short, compact arm action and does a good job of hiding the baseball.  It makes his Fastball play up.  As he learns to get his legs more involved he should have some velocity gains.
