On October 27th, our PBR boot-on-the-ground staff held the Fall Underclass Showcase at Franklin Ranch. This showcase featured talented underclassmen from every corner of the state. Today is a look at an in-depth analysis with scouting reports of all the infielders in attendance. Be sure to stay tuned for the continued releases of analysis from the Fall Underclass Showcase.

Erik Aguirre, OF/C, Deer Park, 2023
5-foot-9, 148-pounds, athletic left-handed hitting outfielder and catcher. Athletic set-up, quick leg kick into short stride, hands load back and down. Short bat-path on a slightly uphill plane, line drive approach to the gaps. Posted a 77 MPH exit velocity off of a tee. In the outfield, plays through the baseball with rhythm, fields with right foot forward, clean exchange into crow hop. Threw 78 MPH from the outfield. Behind the plate, clean and quick transfer, showcased a 2.29-2.38 pop time. Ran a 7.62 in the 60-yard dash. 

Spencer Alexander, OF/LHP, Lufkin HS, 2021
6-foot-1, 155-pounds, wiry left-handed hitting outfielder and pitcher. Crouched, balanced set-up, aggressive hand load, high leg kick into long stride. Uphill bat path, produces natural lift, quick hands produces bat speed, lower half works well. Posted an 86 MPH exit velocity off of a tee. In the field, attacks the ball with tempo, fields off of glove-side foot, threw 79 MPH from the outfield. Ran a 7.59 in the 60-yard dash. On the mound, works with a tall and fall delivery, loose arm action from a ¾ release point. Fastball topped at 78 MPH while the curveball sat at 67 MPH with a 1/7 shape. 

Miguel Bustamante, 1B/LHP, OConnor HS, 2023
5-foot-9, 195-pounds, strong left-handed hitting first basemen and pitcher. Tall, balanced set-up, hands set high, barrel tilt load with aggressive leg kick. Slightly uphill bat path, swings with intent power approach to the gaps, can get long at times. Posted a 76 MPH exit velocity off of a tee.  On defense, clean exchange in the outfield, utilizes a pro-step gather. Short and loose arm action. Threw 79 MPH from the outfield. Ran a 8.49 in the 60-yard dash. On the Mound, Bustamante has a drop and drive delivery, lands in line with shoulders downhill. Fastball topped at 80 MPH with heavy action, thrown for strikes at the knees. The curveballl sat at 61 MPH and showed decent depth with 1/7 shape. The changeup sat at 70 MPH. 

Ethan Davis, OF/INF, Lake Creek HS, 2022
5-foot-10, 174-pounds, athletic left-handed hitting outfielder and infielder. Tall set-up, quiet hand load, short and simple stride. Uphill pat bath, line drive approach to the pull-side. Posted an 84 MPH exit velocity off of a tee. Steady defender on the infield, clean footwork, two-hand gather off of glove-side, quick exchange, fields well on the move, early glove presentation.  Short and quick arm action from a ¾ slot. Threw 78 MPH across the diamond. In the outfield, clean actions, utilizes a pro-step gather. Ran a 7.89 in the 60-yard dash. 

Colin Gaskill, C/OF, Magnolia HS, 2023
5-foot-9, 150-pounds, right-handed hitting catcher and outfielder. Balanced, open set-up, smooth hand load, simple and short stride. Direct bat path on a level plane, works to stay inside and on top of the baseball, line drive approach. Posted an exit velocity of 83 MPH off of a tee. On defense, fields with right foot forward, clean exchange, utilizes a pro-step gather. Threw 73 MPH from the outfield. Behind the plate, gains ground towards second base on throw down, clean and quick exchange. Showcased a 2.26-2.37 pop time. Ran a 7.56 in the 60-yard dash. 

Diego Martinez, OF/RHP, Klein Cain HS, 2022
5-foot-9, 150-pounds, athletic right-handed hitting outfielder and pitcher.  Posted an 83 MPH exit velocity off of a tee. In the outfield, plays through the baseball with tempo, fields with right foot forward, follows his throws, baseball carries from the outfield. Threw 88 MPH from the outfield. Ran a 7.42 in the 60-yard dash. On the mound, uses a drop and drive delivery with rhythm. Lands in line with square shoulders, athletic finish. Over the top release point with quick arm speed, threw all three pitches for strikes. Fastball sits at 81 MPH with good spin rate, changeup at 75 MPH and the slider at 70 MPH. 

Michael Mayhugh, OF, Smithson Valley, 2023
5-foot-11, 180-pounds, physical right-handed hitting outfielder. Balanced, narrow set-up with hands set low, quiet hand load with controlled leg kick into long stride, balanced finish. Level bat path with extension through the baseball, line drive approach, ability to stay inside the baseball. Posted a 76 MPH exit velocity off of a tee.  On defense, smooth actions, fields off of glove-side foot with rhythm, utilizes a pro-step gather. Long and loose arm action from a high ¾ slot. Threw 76 MPH from the outfield. Ran a 7.97 in the 60-yard dash. 

Benjamin Merriman, OF/RHP, Austin Bowie, 2023
5-foot-9, 165 pounds, right-handed hitting outfielder and pitcher.  Posted an 84 MPH exit velocity off of a tee. On defense, fields through the baseball with tempo, utilizes a crow-hop gather, clean exchange,  Threw 81 MPH from the outfield. Ran a 7.32 in the 60-yard dash. 

Brayden Powers, LHP/OF, Katy HS, 2022
6-foot-1, 180-pounds, lanky left-handed pitcher and outfielder with upside. At the plate, wide and crouched set up with hands set by back ear, simple stride with a smooth hand load. Line drive swing with extension, showed the ability to stay inside and on top of the baseball. Posted an 81 MPH exit velocity off of a tee. In the outfield, utilizes a pro-step gather, fields off of glove-side foot. Arm works loose and over the top. Threw 75 MPH from the outfield. Ran a 7.51 in the 60-yard dash. On the mound, works in line with a tall and fall delivery, good feel for the zone. Fastball showed some sinking action, topped at 81 MPH and sat 78-81 MPH. The changeup pairs well with the fastball, at 73 MPH, also exhibiting running and sinking action  The curveball sat at 69 MPH, sweeping action at times.
