SOUTHLAKE, TX - Now that the UIL District play has begun, that usually means that an individual can only see one game each Tuesday and Friday. However, we got lucky on Saturday, catching two Texas Power 25 teams in two separate games. We saw No. 14 ranked Argyle host Crandall at noon, then made the short trip over to Southlake to see Carroll, ranked No. 3 in Texas, host Frisco Wakeland at 3:30.

Starting for Southlake Carroll was TCU commit, 2019 LHP Cutter Sippel. After Sippel worked a scoreless first, the Dragons got on the board with a run in the bottom half of the inning. 2018 IF Cade Bell led off with an infield single, then stole second and scored on an RBI single from 2018 3B Cole Johnson. 1-0 Dragons.

Wakeland got that run back when Trent Warstler doubled to right-centerfield and courtesy runner, Donovan Corley stole third and scored on a throwing error from the catcher. Tie game 1-1.

The Wolverines scored two more in the third thanks to a Southlake error, but the Dragons would pull within one on a Wakeland error in the bottom half of the inning. Score 3-2 in favor of Wakeland.

The bottom of the fourth would prove to be the deciding frame of the game when Carroll scored eight runs on seven hits and two Wakeland errors. The 1-4 hitters for Carroll (Bell, Stephenson, Johnson, Ortiz) would all single, with three of the four driving in a run for the Dragons. Carroll 10, Wakeland 3.

The Dragons would not look back, scoring single runs in the 5th and 6th innings. Sippel went the distance for Southlake, hurling 7 innings, allowing only one earned run on 3 hits, one walk, and striking out 7 batters. Final Score: Southlake Carroll 12, Wakeland 3.
