Toby Bicknell
Texas Scouting Director

DALLAS, TX- This event was loaded with players from the 2021-2023 class from the DFW and surrounding areas. Here is a small but thorough look at some of guys that stood out.

2022 SS/RHP Jett Williams (Heath) has some of the best all around tools in his class. He ran a 6.87, hammered balls during BP, has athletic actions on the infield, threw 90 across the diamond, and was 88-90 on the mound. The arm stroke is clean with low effort and he spun his breaker at 76-77 and showed good feel for an above average CH at 81. Mega Guy.

2021 SS Austin Beck (Allen HS) is a very solid young middle guy who ran a 6.88. It’s an easy hack that should continue to add pop as he gains strength, and the fundamentals are there at shortstop.

2023 SS/C Brayden Randle (Rockwall) is a left-handed hitting SS/C with quick hands and the ability to already receive at a young age. He posted pop times of 2.03-2.23 and showed quick footwork at shortstop.

2022 OF Caleb Bergman (Plano East) ran a 6.66 and plays through the ball with athletic actions and loose arm swing.

2021 OF JD Moreno (Mansfield Lake Ridge) was all over the field on Tuesday, making plays in the OF during BP and showing quality all around Baseball actions. The left-handed hitter has rhythm at the plate with strength and whip in the barrel. His arm works well from the outfield and he pitched at 83 with feel for CB (70-73) and CH 74.

2022 SS Austin Pryor (Corsicana) has quick hands that allow the right-handed hitter to take a direct path and make hard contact during BP. At shortstop, he has a quick first step and solid fundamentals as he funnels the ball to the midline.

2021 C William Krenek (George Ranch HS) three strikes to second base with a top velocity from the crouch of 71 mph and pop times of 2.11-2.15. The right-handed hitter has simple strength at the plate with quick hands and short stroke that produced a top exit velocity of 92 mph.

2023 SS/RHP Kyler Proctor (Silo, OK) has twitchy baseball tools for a rising freshman. The right-handed hitter takes an aggressive hack and has strength in the barrel (86 exit). Moves well at shortstop where the arm strength plays at 81 and he was 82-84 on the mound.

Really like the left-handed hack we saw in BP from 2021 C Blake Wilhiote (Midlothian Heritage). Lean-muscular frame, barrel stays in the zone a long time, strong contact thru middle of the field. Quick exchange behind the dish with pop times of 2.07-2.19.

2021 OF Jakob Hayes (Arlington Martin) plays strong safety at Martin and looks the part. He can deadlift over 400 pounds, ran a 6.94 60 yard dash and posted an 88 mph exit velo but based off what we saw during BP there is more juice in the bat.

2021 RHP Parker Loser (Denton Guyer) has a whippy-loose arm swing and is likely going to make a velocity jump in the next year. At 6-2/145 he pumped three pitches for strikes with a 78-80 mph FB, CB at 69-70, and CH at 75.

2022 OF Ryan Murphy (Marcus HS) is a LHH that made crisp contact during BP with a loose finish of the barrel and sneaky pop. Tracked balls down during BP and looks like a future corner bat.

Really like the way 2021 LHP Chandler Benson’s (Frisco Liberty) arm works from a low-3/4 slot with some whip out front to finish. FB was only 79-81, but he threw a short breaking 2/8 slider with late bite to finish at 75-76.

2021 SS Caden Fiveash (Heath HS) has an athletic frame and a smooth LH swing with relaxed-quick hands. Shows above average range at SS with a quick exchange.

2021 OF Gage Wakefield is an all around athletic player that ran a 6.67 and showed an above average arm in the OF (84).

Got a feeling 2021 RHP/3B Jake Jennings is going to throw a good bit harder in the future. He pumped strikes from a high slot with fast arm at 81-83. CB has downer 12/6 shape at 70-72, and he has good feel for CH at 73-74.

2021 OF Ryan Madeiros (Prosper HS) is strong is a physical, athletic, offensive outfielder that ran a 6.99 and took an aggressive round of BP, lacing balls with gap strength and threw 88 from the OF.

2021 C Cortland Castle (Midway HS) has made a lot of jumps since we saw him over a year and half ago. At 5-11/190 he has a strong frame, posted an 89 exit velo with simple strength in BP. Threw 78 from the crouch and his pop times we extremely consistent; 1.93, 2.01, 1.93, 1.95, and 2.01.

2022 SS Jordan Medellin (Bay Area Christian) is a super projectable middle guy at 6-1/155 with a long limbed frame. Switch hitter with feel for the barrel, he moves easy at shortstop. On the mound, he was 84-85 with a plus 2-seamer.

2021 RHP/3B Griffin Binkley (Mansfield Legacy) has a ton of twitchy athleticism that translated to the mound, where he was 85-87 and flashed a sharp slider at 74.

2021 OF/LHP Tyler Schott (Marcus HS) hammered balls during BP, including 2 HR from the right side. On the mound, the left-handed was 84-86, 87T, with a 73-75 mph slider and 77-78 mph changeup.

2021 C Ian Collier has added what looks like 5 pounds to his 6-1/195 pound frame in the past year. Strong contact during BP including a HR. He posted a 90 mph exit velo, threw 76 from the crouch and had pop times of 2.09-2.15.

2021 SS/RHP Zachary Cawyer (Nolan Catholic) oozes projection and upside with his 6-2/167 pound frame, high waist and long limbs. He took a really quality round of BP, posted an 89 mph exit velo, plays with his hands out front which is a plus for a player of his size and age. On the mound, he was 85-86, 87T, and threw a deep breaking 65-67 mph curveball.

2022 3B/C Jayson Jones (Braswell) is already physical for a rising sophomore at 6-2/185 but looks like there is still room to add strength. Launched two homers during BP and makes loud contact. Ran a 7.08 60, threw 78 from behind the dish, 84 across the infield, and his pop times were 2.08-2.19. Looks like a future middle of the order hitter.

2022 RHP/1B Brooks Gay (Abilene Wylie HS) has plenty of room to add strength and velocity in the future at 6-3/160. The youngster topped out at 84, sitting 81-83 and showing good feel for four pitches. CB 71-72, SL 75-76, and CH 73.

2021 C Preston Hanover (Heath HS) posted pop times of 1.93-2.09 with a 77 mph velocity from the crouch, ran a 7.15, and showed a loose-quick arm swing from the OF.

2022 OF/RHP Tommy Delaney (Dallas Jesuit) is an athletic big man at 6-3/185 with strength and leverage at the plate.

2021 Cooper Lanz (Guyer HS) has a physical frame at 6-3/220 and a strong arm from 3B with a top velocity of 83. The right handed hitter made loud contact during BP and posted a top exit velocity of 89.

2021 OF/1B Jackson Peters (Plano HS) stand 6-foot-4, 175-pounds with a long, athletic frame that should add strength as he continues to fill out. The left-handed hitter’s barrel stays in the zone a long time and he was on the barrel with line drives thru the middle of the field during BP.

2021 RHP/1B Nick Greaney is a large young man at 6-7/235. The left-handed hitter took good passes at the ball during BP and made hard contact with loose hands and top exit velo of 88. The arm works on the mound and even though he had scattered command, his fastball was 84-86 and he has the look of a projectable arm that is likely to throw harder.

2021 C/SS Kevin Bazzell (Heath HS) does everything well. He has a simple swing from the right side with quick hands that do damage on contact with a 92 exit velo. He was on time and on the barrel. Quick footwork and easy exchange allow the arm to work with a top velocity from the crouch of 80 mph and pop times of 1.94-2.07.

2023 SS Ethan Mendoza is still very young but there he has the fundamental-athletic actions at shortstop and at the plate that should allow him to progress as he matures physically.

2022 LHH/1B Connor Cox Strong, physical left-handed hitter that belted the ball off the centerfield wall twice during BP and posted an 89 mph exit velocity. Natural rhythm with lift.
