Fall Invite: Pitcher Analysis

In November, PBR VA/DC hosted a combined Fall Event at Virginia Sportsplex. Originally, we were set to host an Underclass Fall Invite at Old Dominion and an Unsigned Senior Showcase at Virginia Sportsplex, but inclement weather forced us to cancel the event at ODU and combine the two events into our Fall Invite, which featured players from the classes of 2018, 2019, and 2020 and represented all corners of the Commonwealth.

Today, we wrap up our detailed analysis of the event by looking at the pitchers who participated in the event. 

Bailey Burke 1B/RHP Kettle Run 2018
Burke is 5-11 with an athletic frame, throws from a three-quarters arm slot, stabs arm down and back, longer arm action that has some looseness, normal effort to delivery. Shoulders uphill and on line, lands square with an athletic finish. Fastball was 76-77, touching 78, with a bit of late run to it. Curveball was 60-63 with some armspeed and hard 11/5 break. Slider was 63 with sharp 10/4 break. 

Garrett Canterbury RHP Flint Hill 2018
Canterbury is 6-2 with an athletic frame, throws with a drop and drive delivery from a three-quarters arm slot with a shorter free arm action, normal effort to his delivery. Shoulders uphill and on line, lands square with athletic finish. Fastball was 71-74 with some plane and late sink. Changeup was 66-68 with sink and good armspeed. Curveball was 58-62 with gradual 11/5 break and some armspeed.

Nick Famiglietti 3B/RHP Briar Woods 2020
Famiglietti is 5-11 with a lanky frame, throws from a low three-quarters arm slot with a longer free arm action and normal effort. Shoulders level and uphill, lands closed with an athletic finish. Fastball was 76-78 with heavy run. Slider was 66-68 with good armspeed and late sharp 10/4 break. Change-up was 70-73 with good armspeed and some fade.

Blake Fisher SS/RHP Highland 2020
Fisher is 5-10 with an athletic frame, throws from a three-quarters arm slot with a smooth delivery, short free arm action that is quick, generates velocity with normal effort. Shoulders are uphill and on line, lands slightly closed with a bit of a fall off finish. Fastball sat 78-80, touching 81 with heavy sink. Change-up was 63-65 with heavy run and was thrown with some armspeed. Curveball was 61-63 and had sharp 10/4 break, he threw it with good armspeed. Showed feel for all three pitches.

Charlie Ganote RHP Woodrow Wilson 2020
Ganote is 6-0 with an athletic frame, throws from a lower three-quarters arm slot with a long, loose arm action that is quick, generates velocity with normal effort. Shoulders are uphill and closed, lands closed with a fall off finish. Fastball was 81-83 with some late run. Curveball was 70-73 with hard sharp 10/4 break and good armspeed. Changeup was 75-77 with hard late fade and was thrown with good armspeed. Good feel for all three pitches.

Brian Hennessey OF/RHP W.T. Woodson 2018
Hennessey is 6-0 with an athletic frame, throws from a high three-quarters arm slot, longer loose arm action with some quickness, normal effort to his delivery. Shoulders closed and slightly uphill, lands closed with a slight fall off finish. Fastball was 80-83 with some late run. Slider was 73-75 with late 11/5 break with good armspeed. Change-up was 73-74 with fading action and some armspeed.

Matthew Michel RHP Highland 2019
Michel is 6-3 with a lanky projectable frame, throws from a higher three-quarters arm slot with a short loose arm action that is very quick, throws with some effort. Shoulders are uphill and on line, lands slightly closed with an athletic finish and recoil. Fastball was 85-87 with good downward angle and late sink to it. Curveball was 70-74 with sharp hard 11/5 break and was thrown with good armspeed, swing and miss pitch. Changeup was 79-81 with heavy fade and good armspeed. Showed ability to command all three pitches in the strike zone.

Matthew Rhodes SS/RHP St. John’s College 2018
Rhodes is 5-11 with a lankier athletic frame, throws from a submarine slot with a short free arm action and normal effort. Shoulders closed, lands closed and falls off hard to arm side. Fastball was 70-73, touching 74 with heavy late sink. Slider was 63-65 with late sweep and good armspeed. Change-up was 63-65 with heavy sink and some armspeed.

Steven Ritchie RHP Grassfield 2022
Ritchie is 5-7 with a strong lower half, throws from a high three-quarters arm slot with a longer free arm action and normal effort. Shoulders are uphill and on line, sweeps foot to an open landing with a slight fall off finish. Fastball was 64-66 with some sink. Changeup was 60-61 with some sink to it, slowed arm a bit to throw. Curveball was 58-59 with gradual 12/6 break and some armspeed.

Corey Roberts RHP/OF Woodrow Wilson 2018
Roberts is 6-2 with a lanky frame, throws from a low three-quarters arm slot, short free arm action, normal effort to his delivery. Shoulders are uphill and closed, landed square with a slight fall off finish with some recoil. Fastball was 70-72, touching 74 with some late run. Curveball was 60-62 with gradual 10/4 break. Changeup was 65-67 with good armspeed and some sink.

Jason Turner OF/RHP Gloucester County Institute of Technology (NJ) 2018
Turner is 5-11 with an athletic frame, throws from a three-quarter arm slot, short free arm action with some effort to his delivery. Shoulders uphill and closed, lands slightly closed with hard fall off finish. Fastball was 78-80 with late sink and run. Curveball was 65-67 with some armspeed and late 11/5 break. Change-up was 69-71 with good armspeed and late run.
