The Preseason All-State was hosted by Virginia Sport Complex on Saturday, February 17th. Over 100 players from around the Commonwealth came to be apart of the biggest event in Virginia history and the talent on display was equally impressive. We continue our analysis of the event with the outfielders.
TOP outfielders
Trey Carter OF / RHP / Carlisle, VA / 2020Carter is 6-3 with a lanky frame that is projectable and he still has plenty of room to add strength to. Hits from the right side from an upright balanced stance. Short stride on line, loads back with a wrap, some rhythm to his swing. Explosive lower half and good balance during his swing. Very short to the ball, explosive batspeed, works slightly uphill with good extension through the ball, whippy bat with some power potential to all fields, exit velocity was 91. In the outfield, gets behind the ball and fields with above average hands, quick clean exchange working through the ball. Throws from high three-quarters arm slot, lightning quick arm, ball jumps out of hand, outfield velocity was 92. Has some speed, ran 4.39 home to first. |
Geo Rivera RHP / OF / Lafayette, VA / 2019Rivera is an Old Dominion commit and is 6-3 with an athletic frame that still has projection to it. He hits from the right side from an open athletic stance. Short leg kick stride on line, loads back with a slight wrap, some rhythm to his swing. Hips rotate and maintains balance to his swing. Very strong, gets barrel to contact and muscles through the ball with good extension through the ball. Line drive swing, power to all fields when he extends, exit velocity was 100. High finish creates backspin and carry. In the outfield, gets body behind it and works through it, clean exchange. Throws from a higher three-quarters arm slot with a quick loose arm action, strong arm outfield velocity was 92. |
Reilly Owen RHP / OF / William Monroe, VA / 2019Owen is 6-1 with an athletic frame, he hits from the right side from a slightly open athletic stance. Short stride on line, loads back, some rhythm to his swing. Hips fire with some explosion, has some balance to his swing. Slightly uphill path, gets barrel to contact quickly with extension through the ball, showed good approach, working gap to gap where he has easy doubles power, chance for more to pull side, exit velocity was 92. In the outfield, gets body behind ball and plays through it as he fields, using average hands and a clean transfer to get to a higher three-quarters arm slot. Loose arm that is quick, ball has carry, outfield velocity was 87. |
Ricky Jones OF / Hopewell, VA / 2019Jones is a Richmond commit and is 6-0 with an athletic frame, a stronger lower half and some projection left to his frame. He hits from the right side from an open upright stance. Strides on line, smooth load back, good relaxed rhythm. Short to ball, uphill swing path, barrel through zone quickly, line drive hitter, worked gap to gap, exit velocity was 83. In the outfield, gets behind the ball, has good footwork, fields it with above average hands. Quick clean exchange, throws from a three-quarters arm slot, short loose arm action with easy effort, outfield velocity was 88. Ran a 4.05 home to first, has a chance to be a game changing defender in the outfield. |
Aidan Foley LHP / OF / Western Branch, VA / 2020Foley is 6-1 with a lankier athletic frame with a lot of projection left to it. He hits from the right side from a balanced upright stance, short leg kick stride on line, smooth load back to a wrap, good quiet rhythm to his swing. Explosive lower half and some balance to his swing. Fast bat, gets to contact quickly, good extension through the ball, level to contact and then uphill through it, whippy bat. Line drive swing with power potential, exit velocity was 90. In the outfield, got behind the ball and fielded it with above average hands, clean exchange working through it to throw from a three-quarters arm slot, short arm action. Outfield velocity was 82, ran a 4.33 home to first. |
Aidan Willard OF / RHP / Briar Woods, VA / 2019Willard is 5-11 with an athletic frame that he has added strength to and still has plenty of projection left to it. Hits from the left side from an open athletic stance, leg kick stride and loads down and back, creating slight wrap and bar, some rhythm to his swing. Hips rotate completely, good balance on a firm base. Short to the ball with some quickness to his bat, finishes uphill through the ball with good extension. Showed a pull approach with line drives that he can lift for extra bases, doubles power with potential for more, exit velocity was 88. In the outfield, fields ball with average hands, has quick feet, clean exchange, throws from three-quarters arm slot with a loose arm action, outfield velocity was 82. Has speed, home to first was 4.07. |

Sam Alheit Indian River 2019
Alheit is 6-0 and has an athletic frame with projection left to it. He hits from the left side from an athletic loaded back stance. Leg kick stride on line, short load back, some rhythm to his swing. Explosive lower half, dives at the ball a bit, some balance to swing. Quick bat, short and fast to contact, level path to ball with some uphill extension through it. Line drive swing with some whip to his bat, exit velocity was 82. In the outfield, gets behind the ball and plays through it with clean feet and a clean exchange. Fields with above average hands and throws from a three-quarters arm slot with a short arm action, some carry to his throws, outfield velocity was 81. Ran a 4.12 home to first.
Tyler Brocato W.T. Woodson 2020
Brocato is 5-9 with a lanky frame with some projection left to it. He hits from the right side from a slightly open athletic stance. Keeps toe down on stride, loads back with slight wrap. Hips rotate completely, good balance to lower half. Slightly uphill line drive swing, showed good approach working the middle of the field, exit velocity was 72. In the outfield, quick feet, works through ball well, fields with above average hands. Clean exchange, throws from three-quarters arm slot, short arm action with some looseness, outfield velocity was 78.
Jack Carey Miller School 2019
Carey is 6-5 with a tall, strong athletic frame. He hits from the left side from an open upright athletic stance. Short leg kick stride on line, short load back with a slight wrap, some rhythm to his swing. Explosive hips rotate fully, good balance to lower half. Very strong swing, short to ball working uphill through contact, pull fly ball approach with plenty of power to pull side, exit velocity was 97. In the outfield, gets body behind the ball and fields with average hands. Works through the ball to a clean exchange, throws from a three-quarters arm slot with some carry on his throws, outfield velocity was 87.
Adam Dressler Highland 2020
Dressler is 5-9 with an athletic frame, he hits from the left side from an open athletic stance. Leg kick stride on line, loads down and back to slight bar, has some rhythm to his swing. Hips rotate completely, stands up through contact and maintains balance during swing. Short uphill swing path with a pull preference, path flattens out when using middle of the field, line drive swing, exit velocity was 77. In the outfield, gets behind ball and fields with average hands, works through the ball to a clean exchange. Throws from a high three-quarters arm slot with a short arm action, outfield velocity was 76. Ran 4.28 home to first.
Christian Easley Bassett 2018
Easley is 5-9 with a lankier athletic frame that still has some projection left to it. He hits from the right side from a slightly open upright stance. Short leg kick stride on line, no stride, but has good rhythm to his swing. Hips are quick and rotate completely, has some balance during his swing. Short swing path, works slightly uphill, line drive hitter who showed good approach working gap to gap, exit velocity was 82. In the outfield, got behind the ball and fielded with average hands. Transferred to throw from a low three-quarters arm slot with a short arm action, outfield velocity was 77. Has some speed, home to first was 4.18.
Clay Goff Fauquier 2020
Goff is 5-9 with a lanky frame. A switch hitter, from the right side, hits from a balanced open stance, strides on line loads back with a wrap. Explosive lower half and some balance to swing, level line drive swing, showed good approach working gap to gap. Similar stance from the left side, smooth load back and short stride on line, better rhythm, hips rotate and maintains good balance. Slightly uphill path with extension through the ball and pull tendency. Best exit velocity was 72. In the outfield, got body behind the ball and played through it, fielding with average hands. Clean exchange, threw from three-quarters arm slot, outfield velocity was 75.
Nick Mastrogianakis Poquoson 2021
Mastrogianakis is 5-5 with a lankier athletic frame, he hits from the right side from a balanced athletic stance. Short leg kick stride on line, short load down and back, some rhythm. Explosive hips rotate completely, good balance to swing. Level swing path to contact, works uphill through contact, line drive hitter pull tendency, exit velocity was 72. In the outfield, gets body behind ball, fields with average hands, throws from three-quarters arm slot, short arm action, outfield velocity was 72.
Jaron McNeil OF/RHP Dinwiddie 2021
McNeil is 6-2 and has a lanky frame with a lot of projection left, he hits from the right side from an open, upright balanced stance. Short stride on line, smooth load back, good rhythm to setup. Explosive lower half and good balance to swing. Short and quick to ball, works slightly uphill with extension through contact, some whip to has bat, keeps hands in. Line drive hitter with some doubles pop, plenty of potential to add more, exit velocity was 83. In the outfield, gets body behind ball and fields with average hands. Throws from three-quarters arm slot with a short loose arm that is quick, outfield velocity was 87. Has quickness, ran 4.00 home to first.
Jay Nesson George Mason 2019
Nesson is 5-11 with a lankier frame that still has projection to it. He hits from the right side from an open athletic stance, short stride on line, smooth load back, wraps some, good rhythm to his swing. Hips rotate, maintains good balance to his swing. Level to contact with extension uphill through the ball, line drive swing that generates some carry to pull side, showed good approach working middle of the field, exit velocity was 79. In the outfield, gets body behind the ball and fields with average hands, works through his exchange and throws from a lower three-quarters arm slot with a loose arm action, outfield velocity was 85.
Jonathan Rivard Spotsylvania 2018
Rivard is 6-1 with an athletic frame that still has projection left to it. He hits from the right side from a balanced athletic stance, short leg kick stride on line, smooth load back, good rhythm to swing. Short level line drive swing, quick bat with some whip, gets extension through contact. Showed good approach, working gap to gap, has doubles power to the middle of the field with the chance to develop more to his pull side, exit velocity was 89. In the outfield, clean feet, gets body behind ball and plays through it, fields with above average hands. Quick clean exchange, pushes through to throw from a high three-quarters arm slot, free arm action, outfield velocity was 84.
John Roberson Massaponax 2018
Roberson is 5-9 with an athletic frame, he hits from the right side from a slightly open athletic stance, leg kick stride on line, short load back with some rhythm to his swing. Explosive hips and some balance to his swing. Very short and quick to ball, level line drive swing, showed good approach, working gap to gap, has some doubles power, exit velocity was 88. In the outfield, has quick feet, fields with average hands. Throws from a low three-quarters arm slot with a short arm action, outfield velocity was 78. Has some speed, home to first was 4.28.
Parker Russell Great Bridge 2019
Russell is 6-0 with a lankier frame that has a lot of projection left to it. He hits from the right side from a balanced athletic stance, strides on line, short load back wrapping his bat, some rhythm to his swing. Very explosive hips that rotate fully, some balance to his swing as well. Quick hands, keeps them inside and stays very short to contact, level line drive swing with good extension through the ball, some whip to his bat. Showed good approach working gap to gap, finishes uphill and generates backspin, has doubles power to middle of field with a chance for home run power at some point, exit velocity was 91. In the outfield, clean feet, gets behind ball, plays through it fielding with above average hands. Quick clean transfer, throws from a three-quarters arm slot with a short arm action, outfield velocity was 85.
Cameron Wayt Broad Run 2019
Wayt is 6-1 with an athletic frame that has some projection left to it, hits from the right side from an open slightly crouched athletic stance. Strides on line, loads back with a bar and a slight wrap. Hips rotate completely and maintains some balance to his swing. Works slightly uphill to contact with extension to the ball. Strong through contact and generates some carry, has a pull tendency but worked gap to gap in his round, exit velocity was 88 and he has doubles power with potential for more. In the outfield, gets body behind ball and works through it, fields with above average hands, clean exchange. Throws from a three-quarters arm slot with a free arm action, outfield velocity was 81.
