Preseason All-State II: Rapid Reaction Hitters

On Sunday, February 16, over 100 players from all corners of Virginia and DC descended on Ironbridge Academy in Chester, VA to take part in Session II of the 2020 Preseason All-State. It was an outstanding event with a ton of talent on display, here are some quick notes on a few pitchers who really caught our staff's eye with their performance on Sunday. Ryan Bhojwani SS / Bishop O'Connell, VA / 2021Bhojwani has an athletic frame with some projection left to it. He has good hands as a defender and arm strength as well as quickness and agility. At the plate, he has a knack for the barrel and is short to contact with some gap power present.

Noah Canterbury OF / LHP / Buffalo Gap, VA / 2021Canterbury has an athletic frame with projection left to it. He hits from the left side, short to the ball with strength at contact and extension through it, exit was 91. Arm strength from the outfield of 86 that also showed on the mound where he was 81-83, touching 85.

Tanner Clements C / 1B / Matoaca, VA / 2021Clements has a strong athletic frame. Showed versatility working in the infield and at catcher, release was quicker behind the plate at 2.00-2.09. Short to ball with strength and extension through it, exit velocity was 93.

Blake Cuddington 1B / RHP / Highland, VA / 2021Cuddington had a strong two-way day, showing strength at contact and power to both gaps. Also showed barrel awareness and ability to drive ball to all fields. On the mound, was also 80-81 with feel of both of his offspeed pitches.

Jacob Friend C / OF / Yorktown, VA / 2021Friend is athletic with projection left to it. He has speed with a 4.05 home to first. Showed positional arm strength at 78 with a quick release and pop times that were 1.94-2.02. Short to the ball with strength at contact and some gap power present.

Lincoln Lubsen C / RHP / Walsingham Academy, VA / 2021Lubsen is an athletic catcher with projection left in his frame. Has present power in the gaps with strength at contact and an exit of 87. Quick release with arm strength, 79 on his throw downs with pop times of 1.98-2.09.

Kevin Mackmin 3B / 1B / Westfield, VA / 2021Mackmin has a tall athletic frame with projection left to it. He hits from the left side with a short swing to contact and extension through the ball. He has power projection with gap power now and a chance for more as he gets stronger.

Christian Martin SS / 2B / Amherst Co., VA / 2021Martin is a Virginia Tech commit with plenty of projection left to his frame. Smooth defender with speed, ran a 4.16 home to first and his arm was 88 across the infield. At the plate, fast bat with gap power present and plenty of power projection left.

Garrett Pancione C / OF / Highland, VA / 2021Pancione has a stronger athletic frame that does still have some projection left to it. He looked good receiving and was accurate on his throw downs with pop times ranging 2.08-2.16. At the plate, he is short to the ball with strength at contact and good extension through the ball, generates gap power easily with a chance for more in the future.

Caden Plummer OF / RHP / Lee Davis, VA / 2021Plummer has an athletic frame and loud tools all around. He ran a 4.07 home to first, his arm was 92 from the outfield, and his exit velocity was 94. He is short to the ball with easy power in the gaps and still has plenty of projection left.

Hunter Powell C / RHP / Magna Vista, VA / 2021Powell has a strong athletic frame that still has some projection left to it. Behind the plate, he has some arm strength and quickness to his release. At the plate, he is short to contact and very strong there with extension through the ball, showed easy doubles power to all fields with a consistent hard contact, exit was 92.

Terrence Rhodes SS / RHP / Benedictine, VA / 2023Rhodes has an athletic frame with a lot of projection left to him. Showed well as a two-way player with arm strength defensively. At the plate, hits from the left side with a short quick swing that generates loft, also has barrel awareness. On the mound, fastball was 80-82 and touched 83 and he showed a good breaking ball that was 66-67.

Jackson Severt C / 3B / Dinwiddie, VA / 2021Severt has an athletic frame with projection left to it. He had a good day behind the plate, showing arm strength at 79 and a quick release with pops of 1.97-2.10. At the plate, short to contact with extension through it. Power present with a chance to add more as he strengthens.

Bryce Suters OF / SS / Broadway, VA / 2021Suters is a James Madison commit and he continues to develop into a heck of a player. Has speed with 4.11 home to first and showed defensive versatility as well as arm strength, up to 88 from the outfield. At the plate, fast bat with a lot of barrel and strong and violent through contact.

Connor Woodel 3B / SS / Powhatan, VA / 2021Woodel has an athletic frame that has projection left to it. Showed some quickness defensively and an easy arm action. At the plate, very short to the ball with strength and extension through it. High barrel awareness and hammers balls in the gaps. Room to add power as he continues to add strength.

Vincent Tank Yaghoubi OF / LHP / Woodberry Forest, NY / 2022Yaghoubi is a lanky athletic frame with a lot of projection left to it. Showed quickness with his home to first and a loose arm throwing from the outfield. At the plate, has some batspeed and is strong at contact with extension through the ball.
