Our coverage of the Richmond Braves Scout Day continues. Today we are highlighting eleven uncommitted 2022 arms that stood out during our recent scout day.

2022 Uncommitted Arms:

Jacob Barber RHP / SS / Louisa County , VA / 2022

Barber possesses a long 6-foot-3 frame. Pitches under control throughout the delivery. Slower hand break into a long arm swing while throwing from a high three-quarter slot. The fastball spin was on the lower side ranging from 1620-1905. Couple that with staying in the bottom half of the zone for sixty percent of his fastballs, Barber should be able to produce some ground balls for his defense.

Jackson Barnett RHP / Hanover, VA / 2022

Physical 6-foot-3 frame. Lower effort delivery for Barnett and works with a loose low three-quarter arm. The arm slot works to his advantage, especially on the fastball, which produces really nice arm side run to both sides of the plate. The 2-seam fastball stood out, showing some late sink to the arm side and ability to work below barrels. Secondary pitches were solid, with the curveball offering above average spin, and efficient arm speed on both.

CJ DiNapoli RHP / OF / Lee-Davis, VA / 2022

DiNapoli is a toolsy defender in the outfield and offers some two-way potential on the mound. It is a slower delivery and it jumps at you with the stride and release. DiNapoli was not very efficient around the zone during this outing, but the arm is live and possesses above average spin on the fastball (up to 2329). The curveball showed power tendencies with hard 12/6 downer action.

Frank Engel C / 3B / Grafton, VA / 2022

Projectable 6-foot-3 frame with plenty of room to grow into it. Engel is a ambidextrous pitcher that catches as well. Worked from the left side early, but seems more comfortable from the right side for now. Simple delivery that has some late intent to it. The arm is quick and whippy from a high three-quarter slot with occasional downhill tilt to the fastball. Offered a three pitch mix with average feel for secondary. Like the ceiling for Engel on the mound.

Dallas Hairfield RHP / OF / Lee Davis, VA / 2022

Athletic actions all over the field and was a big standout on the mound as well. There is some effort and intent to the delivery, but there is plenty of raw arm strength and some more velo in the tank. Worked at 85-87 on the night and absolutely pounded the bottom of the zone with the fastball. Got solid extension on the changeup and had plenty of arm speed on it as well. Arm slows a little on the breaking ball and it showed to be more of a get over pitch that night, but the upside to this arm is obvious.

Jerrod Jenkins C / RHP / Millbrook , VA / 2022

One of the favorite arms of the day was Jenkins. 6-foot-3, long levers, and plenty of room to add strength to a frame that already possesses some. Long arm action and a high over the top slot with downhill action. The fastball had high end spin, ranging from 2364-2565, and elite Induced Vertical Break (up to 22.1 inches). The curveball offered 12/6 shape with big downer action and the makings of a legitimate out pitch.

AJ Labrusciano SS / RHP / North Stafford, VA / 2022

Long lean 6-foot-2 frame for Labrusciano. On the mound offered a three pitch mix and showed ability to throw all of them for strikes. Has a nice feel for his mechanics and what he is doing on the mound and shows that he is a competitor. The two secondary pitches both showed to be solid out pitches. The curveball had 11/5 shape with above average spin for a high school arm, up to 2527. The changeup had nice late arm side fade and played well off of the fastball.

Payton Martin SS / 2B / West Forsyth, NC / 2022

Martin is a big time athlete with loud tools. This is a low miles arm that is not a "pitcher", but definitely offers some intrigue to a bullpen. Jumped on the mound essentially to just see what he could do and impressed everyone who was watching. The delivery is slow paced, showed balance and control, and the arm is live. Quick three-quarter arm with ride through the zone. The fastball spin was up to 2505 and got up to 87 in mid-November.

Trevor Mason SS / RHP / Isle of Wight Academy , VA / 2022

6-foot-1 athletic frame with some two way potential. On the mound the delivery was slower paced with a short arm circle on the backside and worked from an over the top slot. The fastball showed solid arm side run to both sides of the plate while topping at 84 mph. The breaking ball had gradual 11/5 break and was more of a get over pitch for now.

Ryan Rutherford RHP / OF / Stafford High School, VA / 2022

Projectable 6-foot-1 frame. Rhythm and pace and repeats delivery well. Down and out stride. Loose three-quarter arm swing and slot drops slightly on the breaking ball. Hand gets around the breaking ball a little bit and has more of a 11/5 shape. Spin on the curveball ranged between 2221-2504.

Ayden Stuffel LHP / OF / Nansemond River, VA / 2022

Stuffel has a smaller compact 5-8 frame with athleticism present. Loose full arm circle with some arm speed and whip through a three-quarter release. Saw Stuffel in a limited look early last spring and loved what I saw. Showed a similar competitive approach during this bullpen. Produced higher end spin on the fastball that pairs well with elite induced vertical break and above average vertical approach angle. The analytics point to Stuffel being able to produce swings and misses with the fastball and displayed a solid secondary mix.
