On Sunday, October 25, over 190 players from all corners of the Commonwealth and DC descended on Lynchburg to take part in our inaugural VA/DC State Games. Games and workouts were held at two sites, City Stadium and Liberty University, today we highlight a few players who stood out from Teams 7 and 8, who played at Liberty University:

Team 7

Kyle Carpe C / OF / Stone Bridge, VA / 2023

Carpe has a compact strong athletic frame and shows nice athleticism around the dish. Works hard as a receiver with quiet hands and a nice ability to stick the low ball. Offensively, hits from a balanced set up with a level path and barrel that stays in the zone. gets some lift in finish and shows te ability to hit for some pop as well. Like the motor and athleticism, thought Carpe shows enough athleticism that could easily move to another position when not keeping behind the dish.

Ethan Blakeney OF / RHP / Bayside , VA / 2023

Blakeney really showed well at this event as a two-way player to keep an eye on. Plenty of athleticism to boot, Blakeney showed skill during the position portion with his 7.03 60-yard dash, 86 OF velo, and 86 mph exit velo. Shows excellent body control with a simple swing at the plate and quick hands. Blakeney also shows very nice pitchability with feel for three and nice control of the arsenal. Arm works and was up to 82 on the cold night, and we have seen him a little higher in velo this summer. One to keep an eye on down the road.

Mason Butash RHP / OF / Freedom (South Riding), VA / 2023

Butash was another who showed two way potential. Its an athletic set up at the plate. with a shorter swing path and some uphill finish. Strong frame shows more there down the road as he adds to the frame. Stays on balls of feet well. Showed arm strength on the mound with a short an athletic action. Again, being a colder and damp night, I am sure there is more there.

Connor McGhee RHP / Nansemond Suffolk, VA / 2023

McGhee has a longer projectable frame who shows upside on the mound.  6-foot-1 frame with a longer arm action throwing from a higher slot. Thought he pitched with relative ease and will continue to gain more velo as he grows. Again with the weather that day, wouldn't be surprised if already can grab better velo.

Cole Feldman SS / 3B / Midlothian , VA / 2023

Feldman has a tall, long frame with room to add strength to.  Hits from an athletic set up with high hands. Shorter path with some bat speed. Shows potential to be a middle the order type bat. Be interesting to keep eye on. Liked foot work, right now projects more to the corner than short, but think that could change as he stays on balls of feet more.

Team 8

Noah Hertzler RHP / Broadway , VA / 2022

One of the more interesting arms of the day came from this young man out of Broadway HS. Some effort in the delivery , but its a quick arm and has made a recent strong jump and is turning himself into a very interest arm to keep an eye on. Didn't show much off speed in our one look, but the one he did throw was a bigger action pitch and showed nice control of it.

Wade Haney OF / RHP / Clover Hill, VA / 2023

Haney was one of the more interesting players in my opinion. simple stroke at the plate and shows some pop in the bat. Nice athlete with a frame that has plenty of filling out to do. On he mound it was a clean arm action and would not be surprised to see a nice jump in velocity down the road. Breaking ball will play at the next level and sowed good feel for the pitch.

Andrew Brown OF / SS / Manchester , VA / 2022

Brown also stood out on this day, showing impressive athletiism, versatility and arm strength throughout. Brown displayed a quick and confident first step whether it was the infield or outfield and the arm played across the diamond getting up to 85 in the infield. Offensviely Brown has a shorter, level stroke looking to drive a baseball. He has surprising pop already and something that should develop more as he continues to mature. More there in this junior prospect.

Trey Ludy SS / RHP / Cave Spring , VA / 2023

Another one that I thought stood out well was this two way talent from southwest Virginia. Ludy has an athletic and projectable frame that should hold more as he grows. Liked his fluid swing that shows middle of the order potential and a quick arm with more velo to come down the road. Ludy was up to 83 on this chilly wet day so sure to see more there already.
