On Sunday, October 25, over 190 players from all corners of the Commonwealth and DC descended on Lynchburg to take part in our inaugural VA/DC State Games. Games and workouts were held at two sites, City Stadium and Liberty University, today we highlight a few players who stood out from Teams 9 and 10, who played at Liberty University:

Team 9

Joe Gomez RHP / SS / Fluvanna County , VA / 2023

Gomez had a really strong day for Team 9. Ran a 7.25 60-yard dash with a strong showing on both the offensive and defensive end. Gomez was up to 83 across the diamond and got up to 86 mph during BP with his exit velocity via trackman. Though he showed really well with his athleticism and looks like he plenty of versatility as well to play other positions. Gomez showed well on the mound also, getting up to 83 mph on the day in the mist conditions.

Luke Gouldthorpe RHP / OF / Jefferson Forest, VA / 2023

Gouldthore has a very projectable 6-3, 180-pund frame. Showed physicality for his age and strength. The lefty hiter has a shorter stroke with some lift looking to drive the baseball. Strength was present with his 92 mph exit velo during BP. He also showed well on the mouend with a sound arm action and easy effort. He showed some arm speed with a fastball that was up to 82 and has more in the tank.

Rocco Raynor OF / LHP / Buckingham Co., VA / 2023

Raynor was another who put together a solid day. He has a projectable athletic frame with room to grow and add on. At the plate its from the left side from an athletic set up. Simple load with shorter direct path to the ball and bat speed. Exit velo was up to 85 via trackman. Showed nice athleticism and lateral quickness in the outfield. footspeed was solid at 7.27 .

Charlie Knighton SS / OF / St. Christopher's, VA / 2023

Knighton conintues to develop and get better with time. The two way talent really stuck out to me on how much he has improved positionally. He ran a 7.25 on the day and put up solid numbers in the workout with a 79 mph infield velo and 87 mph exit velocity via trackman. The swing has getten a bit more compact and explosiveand he is showing ncie feel for his barrel. Defensively he has sound actions, migth be more suited to move to a corner right now, but that could change as he continues to develop.

Team 10

Trey Gauch RHP / 1B / Deep Run, VA / 2024

Gauch has a long and projectable frame and shows some arm talent down the road. Its a free and easy arm action throwing rom a high three quarter slot. He throws with light effort and still has more he can grab as he get more lower half involvement. Really liked how his arm worked on the bump who got up to 81 on the day and more to come. Like his control of the strike zone. Very excited to see how he develops over the course of his career.

Ayden Evans OF / RHP / Walsingham, VA / 2024

Evans is one for me who really jumps out with his offensive potential. He hits from an athletic set up and simple load. Its a smooth swing with controlled violence in it with his strength and power potential. Was up to 93 mph exit velocity via trackman. strength shows to the gaps and some pull pop that should continue to grow. Shows two way potential as well from the mound but like him at a corner outifled position. One to keep an eye on.

Matthew McGovern OF / SS / Thomas Dale, VA / 2024

I like how McGovern has cotinued to develop over the course of the year. looks to be a top of the order type player with a quick first step. Ran a 7.1 at the state games, but we have had as low as the 6.8 range on our lasers in the summer. Offensively he hits from a balanced set up with a level path and quick hands. Can get around the ball at times. When hands are fee just works smoother and easier. Exellent first step in the outfield and covers ground well. Arm strength is continuing to improve with nice carry on throws.

Ayden Schnarrs SS / OF / Cosby, VA / 2024

Forgot to mention Schnarrs in the Team 7&8 reaction since that was the session be played in, but since he is a 2024, thought he could fit in just fine here. Schnarrs is a very athletic and versatile player who can play in the middle with soft hands and sound skills that can get rid of the ball easy. Love the athleticism and how the hands work on the defensvie end. Ran a 7.17 and was 77 across the diamond. Offensively there is bat speed there with a short swing and shows nice feel for his barrel at a young age. one to keep an eye on.
