VA/MD State Games

6-foot-4, 190-pound lengthy proportional build. Advanced projectable on the mound, using a long quick arm action he showed electric arm speed from a high ¾ arm angle. Tilt-and-topple type pitcher who shows easy effort. Has a tall strong balance point and in line shoulders. Lands square with a clean finish. Produced a fastball that came in at 87-89 mph with a max of 90 mph; has a heavy fastball that shows decent both sides of the plate command and late tilt action. (Max spin 2454; Avg 2271). Shows tight swing and miss action and around the zone decent control on his 11/5 curveball (72-74). (Max spin 2384; Avg 2151).  Was impressed with overall day by young arm and sure to be a top uncommitted arm remaining in the state.

Gouldthorpe is 6-3 with an athletic frame that has some strength in the lower half and plenty of projection left to it. He hits from the left side from an open relaxed athletic stance, leg kick stride on line, short smooth load back. Hips rotate completely and he maintains some lower half balance. Hands stay inside, quick to the ball, uphill swing path, strong at contact point with some extension through the ball, showed a pull approach with the ability to use the whole field, extra base power present in the gaps with some more to pull side, exit velocity was 92. In the outfield, gets body behind the ball and fields through it with above average hands, clean exchange, throws from a three-quarters arm slot, shorter arm action, position velocity was 81. On the mound, he throws from a three-quarters arm slot, longer free arm action and some effort to his delivery. Shoulders are uphill and closed, lands slightly closed with a fall off finish. Fastball was 78-81, touching 82, with some downward plane and some boring action to armside. Curveball was 70-72 with good armspeed and gradual 11/5 break to it.
