PBR Wisconsin Staff

On Feb. 12, the PBR Wisconsin team hosted its second event of 2022, the Fox Cities Preseason ID, at Players Choice Training Facility in Appleton, Wis. This was an open event for all high school classes (2022-25) and gave our staff an ample look at the area's top players.

If you missed us in Appleton, check out our showcase page to see when we’re in the neighborhood next.

On Tuesday we published our biggest takeaways and highlights from Saturday’s showcase within our Quick Hits story. Today, we’ll dive right into the statistical side of things, analyzing Saturday’s top performers from several different statistical categories. Throughout the rest of this week, we’ll be diving deeper into all of the data we collected, too, with the help of our Blast Motion and TrackMan devices.

Despite being one of the youngest players at the event and a very slow track, C/OF Dimitry Edmunds (Appleton West, 2025) clocked in the fastest time of the event. Closely trailing Edmunds was INF Caden Popp (Appleton North, 2023), a well-proportioned athlete who showed well throughout the event. RHP/OF Trevor Vande Hey (Wrightstown, 2024) is another young prospect that caught our eye early into the event, running the third fastest time despite both his age and advanced physicality for a freshman, listed at 6-foot, 170 pounds.

Leading this group of arms was RHP/INF Brayden Olson (St. Croix Falls, 2023), who entered the event as the top prospect in attendance, and one of the top uncommitted players in the state. The long-levered righty reached back and reached a 91 mph high from the mound, showing a velocity jump since the last time we saw him at the 2021 PBR Future Games. Another member of the ‘23 class, RHP/INF TJ Hauser (Appleton East), recorded the second highest fastball velo of the event, and he left Appleton as one of the biggest winners of the day. Hauser showcased a significant velocity jump, roughly six ticks, since our last look at this same event in 2021. RHP/1B Alex Vander Loop (Kimberly, 2024) caught our staff's attention during his ‘pen, producing the third highest max fastball velo as only a sophomore.

MAX EXIT VELOCITY

Rank Name State School Class Pos Exit Velo
1 Trevor Vande Hey WI Wrightstown 2025 OF 98
^ Eli Pantzlaff WI Waukesha West 2023 1B 98

4 Ian Dohms WI Menasha 2024 2B 92
5 TJ Hauser WI Appleton East 2023 RHP 91
6 Mitchel Meinke WI Westfield Area 2023 OF 90

Trevor Vande Hey and 1B Eli Pantzlaff (Waukesha West, 2023) were each responsible two of the hardest hit balls of the event, both registered at 98 mph. Vande Hey proved to be a name to follow at the start of his high school career, showcasing noticeable power to all fields, recording advanced batted-ball metrics for a player his age. Pantzlaff on the other hand has consistently showed a quality offensive skillset, demonstrating it once again in Appleton, averaging the highest exit velocity. And prior to putting together his excellent work on the mound on Saturday, Brayden Olson also showcased a solid round of BP, registering some of the best batted-ball data, too, worth continuing to monitor as a two-way asset.

MAX INFIELD VELOCITY

Rank Name State School Class Pos INF Velo
1 Brayden Olson WI Saint Croix Falls 2023 3B 89
2 TJ Hauser WI Appleton East 2023 RHP 88

7 Alex Vander Loop WI Kimberly 2024 RHP 78
^ Lucas Miller WI Denmark 2023 RHP 78
^ Trevor Vande Hey WI Wrightstown 2025 OF 78

Much like the max fastball velocity leaderboard, Brayden Olson and TJ Hauser had two of the hardest throws across the diamond on Saturday. INF Landen Lozier (Notre Dame Academy, 2023) had the third hardest throw from the infield. Looking like a stronger version of himself, Lozier's strength gain over the offseason was a positive development, considering he's long showed some natural infield instincts and athleticism.

MAX OUTFIELD VELOCITY

Rank Name State School Class Pos OF Velo
1 Loren Georger WI Appleton West 2025 RHP 86

OF Loren Georger (Appleton West, 2025) showed off his arm speed during the outfield defense portion of the event, reaching 86 mph on his throws to home. Adding to an already solid day, Trevor Vande Hey had the second hardest throw from the outfield, making for an all-around impressive performance. OF Mitchel Meinke (Westfield Area, 2023) is an interesting prospect who impressed while in Appleton. While on defense, he made aggressive actions towards the ball and maxed out at 83 mph on his throws in.

TOP POP TIMES

Rank Name State School Class Pos Pop Time
1 Donatello Badalamenti WI Notre Dame Academy 2024 RHP 2.08-2.14
2 Evan Olson WI Appleton East 2022 C 2.09-2.26
3 Rheis Johnson WI Denmark 2023 C 2.12-2.41
4 Dimitry Edmunds WI Appleton West 2025 C 2.13-2.26

Even with his imposing stature, Baldalmenti showed some quick motions behind the plate on his throws from the chute, recording the lowest average pop times of the event. Evan Olson trailed closely, and looked especially soft-handed and flexible as a receiver during the pitcher portion of the showcase, trending like an uncommitted senior backstop to be made aware of. Junior Rheis Johnson impressed our staff last spring while playing for his high school team, and he also stuck out in this showcase setting ahead of his junior spring for Denmark.
